1997 Mitsubishi Eclipse - Answered Questions & Fixed issues
Turn signals
turn on the emergency flashers follow the clicking noise and that is where you will find it is the same relay for the right and left
So I was driving home n my 97 eclipse gst n it
Three possibilities:
1. Most likely: In the engine bay, on the end of the cables on the gearbox, are approx 2cm rubber bushes. These fall apart with age and road dirt. Replace as necessary.
2. Again on the gearbox, the cables fit through a bracket, which can work loose. The cables can also rust where they exit the cable sheath. This usually requires cable replacement.
3. Inside on the transmission tunnel, there are more small bushes that wear out. Replace (often have to be made specially now) as needed.
Turn signals work but why not flashers and side markers?
Depending on vehicles. Could be headlight switch. Or all bulbs burned out. And relay is either located undef hood in fuse panel, under dash on driver side anove pedals or on the side of dash on drivers pr passenger side. There woild be a removeable panel
Where is the fuel filter located??
Thy have two locations that I know of for eclipses I can't remember which one is which but one is right rear side by the wheel under the car the other is under the hood you can't miss it the fuel lines run to it from the rail. Sorry for the vague answer earlier.
Car wont crank unless pop-started.
I would have that starter tested. It could be intermittently engaging and disengaging. This can happen to the starter drive. I`m not sure why it cuts out after you jump start it,since the alternator takes over after cranking the engine. Unless the starter drive is sticking. My other thoughts are on a fuel pump problem.Or fuel problem period such as an obstruction of gas getting to the engine. Fuel filter maybe or fuel pump relay!
Car loses power shuts down
I suspect that the ECU is having problems, specifically leaking electrolytic capacitors on the circuit board. These caps can cause a short circuit to ground (which may cause the radio issue) and then leak electrolyte all over the board. The ECU cannot control the engine properly when this happens. Pull the ECU out, open the can and look at the board. Caps may be bulging or leaking, may be a fishy smell. There's a company in Florida (?) that does Mitsu (and other Japanese) ECU rebuilds for about $200 with a guarantee. Google search them.
Check all the ground points from the engine, harness to the firewall (loosen and tighten the bolts/nuts).
May also be the MPI relay that controls power to the ECU and the fuel pump. It's a big can near the ECU.
