- Your Nissan is running in "limp mode." This is so you can attempt to get to a safe spot with your vehicle. Many vehicles do this. The PCM has picked up a fault.
- Now as for the cause of this 4 wheel drive light being on, this is the same as a check engine light and the codes must be pulled just the same. You will have to go and have the codes pulled so that the reason for the light coming on can be diagnosed and then repaired. There just is no way to tell what is going on with no code.
- The best I can offer you is for you to go get the codes and post them here and than I can at least tell you whats going on. Depending on your skills and tools I may be able to assist you in a repair too. I would like nothing more than to be able to assist you more but without the codes no one can tell you anymore about it, sorry.
- If you have any comments please feel free to leave them here and I will respond to you.
- Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa.

Hello,
Usually if the fan works on high, but no other speed it's a bad resistor.
You tapping on the dash previousely to get the fan to work sounds like you could have a short somewhere in the wiring, or possibly at the speed control swith.

2003 nissan xterra engine stalled
Hi and welcome to Fixya!
You may have a faulty coil pack. If the coil pack is faulty it tends not to give current to the plugs. It is located at the side of the engine where the spark plug wires are connected. Once you removed the cap you will gain access to the coil pack. You will need to pull it out and replace it with the new one.
Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!
