1991 Mitsubishi Montero - Answered Questions & Fixed issues
1991 mitsubushi montero, EFI.
coil is continuous electric, spark comes out of distributor cap . if you have a timing light hook to wires near plug for spark. no spark look at ignition switch. there is a bleeder valve on fuel rail check for pressure. check ECM fuze.
WHERE IS THE Electronic Ignition Module in 1991 Mits. Montero located
The module is in the distibiutor on the 3.0 engine if you have the 3.5 it would be the crank sensor to the ECM with cam sensor also. Have you checked to see if the timing belt is still intact and moving the camshafts. I have also seen a lot of ecu issues that cause the same thing. But I would start with simple steps Check fuses and connections first.
High eratic idle
Try checking the adjustment screw on the throttle body. Two other possible causes could be the speed sensor or the TPS sensor.
Power steering making noise
check if you have power steering fluid in the canister, If you have up to maximum you must check if the noise comes from the Power pump,if so ask a qualified mechanic to confirm and proceed either to repair or renew the part.
1991 montero misfire and not idling correctly, why?
bad gas could have clogged the filter, fuel pump screen, or injectors, other that that check the distributor, plug wires, and spark plugs to ensure they are getting spark. if all thats fine then look at the timing, and if all else fails investigate the sensors
Can not get my 91 montero to start
If the check engine light stays on when the key is turned on, get a manual and following its instructions, read the engine codes and proceed from there. If there is no check engine light, test to see if there is fuel by disconnecting the air cleaner feed to the throttle body and spray either a small amount of starting fluid or gasoline from a spray bottle (DO THIS VERY CAREFULLY). If the car starts or tries to start then your fuel pump, fuel pump relay or fuel pump fuse is the culprit. Dan
All windows except the driver's side are not working.
First, if the driver's window is working, there is no need to waste your time looking for fuses. ALL of the windows are powered by the SAME fuse. The first thing I recommend checking is the window "lock" switch on the master switch. If it is in the "lock" position, none of the other windows will work (it is designed to do that)Other than that, you need to check for power and ground at all of the other door switches. The BLUE/BLACK wire at each of the switches should have battery voltage anytime the ignition switch is in the ON position. If they do not, the wire is broken between the splice near the driver's door and the right front door. Both the RED and the GREEN wires at each switch should have continuity to ground anytime the master switch is at rest with the "lock" switch in the unlock position (the lock switch breaks these grounds to "lock" the windows and prevent them from being operated).
