As we tell everyone else who comes on here with warning lights: When there's a warning light on, that means a trouble code is stored in the computer. Don't ask us to guess what caused the light to go on when all you have to do is get the trouble codes read.
Electrical problems
run the fault codes and look for PCM bus communication problems
could be a bad ground problem

to try and sell you those

will be "offered" at AUTOZONE... (useless).

like thermometers in
FLU-season: they merely
report the news...
A BLOCKED exhaust system will perform exactly
as you have described...!!
Check out all the prices of all the PARTS you can
throw away MONEY trying to surround the trouble

Take it back and make them fix it, if they refuse sue them in small claims and/or contact your state's consumer protection office (or bureau of automotive repair if you have one) and file a formal complaint, that will get them moving.
Loss of power passat
Will need more information, but if you have been noticing a slow and steady decline in power, probably a clogged catalyst converter which is common problem with loss of power without a distinct miss in engine indicating a tune up is needed. If you can get car scanned for codes it will point you in right direction. Often times the national chains like Autozone and Advance Auto will do free scan if your mechanic won't. FREE-PPV.com

Disconnect battery live
Get under car disconnect live into solenoid then the thin wire into centre of solenoid then remove three bolts holding starter one should have earth strap for engine attached
Fitment is reverse of above but clert the starter terminal's with petroleum jelly before attaching wires to combat corrosion
