Replace the oil pressure switch next to the oil filter. When you turn on the ignition the fuel pump runs to prime the system then turns off. Then the oil pressure switch runs the fuel pump to keep the engine running. To test, connect the fuel pump test wire(located at the left front wheel well) to the battery. This will bypass the pressure switch and the engine should run.

Dies after removing jumper cables

We can jump start the car, it runs, but as soon as we disconnect the jumper cables the car dies. I've taken the alternator to Auto Zone and they say it's working but it's for a 4 cylinder and my car is a 6 cylinder. Does this make any sense?

Check this two procedure for...

2.2L (VIN 4) Engine

  1. Properly discharge the air conditioning system into a recovery/recycling machine.
  2. Remove the drive belt on the vehicle.
  3. Remove the air cleaner and resonator assembly.
  4. Unplug the electrical connections from the compressor.
  5. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  6. Unfasten, then remove and cap the A/C hose from the compressor.
Cap the refrigerant lines when opening the system to prevent the entry of dirt and moisture and the loss of refrigerant lubricant.
  1. Loosen the A/C compressor bolts, then raise and support the vehicle.

Fig. 3: Compressor mounting on the 2.2L (VIN 4) engine
  1. Remove the compressor.
To install:
  1. Position the compressor on the vehicle.
  2. Lower the vehicle.
  3. Install the compressor bolts, then tighten the front bolts to 37 ft. lbs. (50 Nm) and the rear bolts to 22 ft. lbs. (30 Nm).
  4. Attach the compressor hose using NEW sealing washers. Tighten the mounting bolts to 24 ft. lbs. (33 Nm).
Lubricate O-rings with refrigerant oil.
  1. Engage the electrical connections to the compressor.
  2. Install the air cleaner and resonator assembly.
  3. Install the serpentine drive belt.
  4. Connect negative battery cable.
  5. Evacuate and charge the system.
  6. Perform a leak test on the system.

3.1L (VIN M) Engine
  1. Properly discharge the air conditioning system into a recovery/recycling machine.
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  3. Remove the serpentine drive belt.
  4. Remove the front compressor bolts.
  5. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  6. Remove the rear compressor bolts.

1994 old cutlass ciera, 3.1 v-6, no power at fuel

1994 old cutlass ciera, 3.1 v-6, no power at fuel pump harness connector. Fuses are good and fuel pump relay is replaced.

Hi, if you have a voltmeter or 12 volt test light, I recommend you interrogate the fuel pump relay socket. Pull the relay out and connect one probe to ground. Probe the socket terminals with the other test lead. With the key off, there should be 1 hot terminal. With the key on, there should be 2 hot terminals. Move the first probe to battery positive and probe again. There should be one ground that shows 12 volts and one load terminal that shows lower voltage--like maybe 2 or 3 volts. There results will tell you what is not getting to the relay. If you can tell me the results, I will provide next steps.

Its the problem related to faulty clutch or faulty clutch relay/.Its the compressor clutch that engage, and then the AC compressor starts running. If the clutch does not engage then compressor will not run. --------- Test the voltage at low pressure switch on the Freon line.If there is no voltage then problem relates to low pressure switch.By-pass this switch and see if that helps.-------

Cross over the brown and light blue wires at the low pressure switch and that should kick on the compressor and fan .So try this first. If by passing the switch turns on the compressor, then low pressure switch has to be replaced.--------
But if bypassing the low pressure switch does not helps, then problem is AC compressor clutch or faulty clutch relay.Yes there is a relay.
The A/C relay is ECM controlled to delay A/C clutch engagement 0.3 seconds after A/C is turned "ON." This allows the IAC to adjust engine speed before the A/C clutch engages. The ECM also causes the relay to disengage the A/C clutch during WOT operation. The A/C relay is energized when the ECM provides a ground path for CIRCUIT 366.

-----------
Also try this, applied direct battery voltage to the green terminal on the compressor and the clutch should engage. If its not engaging then its clutch issue.-------- You will have to follow the wiring diagram and test the relay, compressor and clutch.------Click this link below, it has all wiring diagrams to be followed. ----------- http://technoanswers.blogspot.com/2011/07/ac-compressor-clutch-not-engaging-on.html ---------- This should help.Thanks.Helpmech.

94 olds cutlass ciera service engine soon just came on what should i do

the service engine soon light is on what do i do?

Answer

If the service engine light is on, this is in a way a good thing. This means that your vehicles computer has detected a problem and the computer has stored this information for you. Now the trick is how to get that information from an older system like you have (they changed the system in late 1996). You need to find the data link connector which should be under the dash on the drivers side of the vehicle and I believe yours (don't quote me on this) is on the right side of the steering column by the brake pedal or even mounted on the bottom of the dash (same area though). Below is a picture of what this data link plug looks like. Now have a peice of paper and a pen also a paper clip (one of the bigger ones are better. Now take that paper clip and kind of bend it into a "U" and insert one end into the letter "A" spot on the plug and the other end in the "B" spot on the data link plug. After you "jump" A and B turn your ignition switch to the on position without starting the vehicle and look at your check engine light.. Here is where the pen and paper come in. The check engine light should start blinking. The begining or starting blinks should goes as "blink" (one blink) - Pause - and the "blink blink" (2 blinks). This is a code 12. A code 12 means the system is working. It will blink a code 12 three times. After the code 12 there will be a litttle longer pause and then another code(s) should start. this is where the counting comes in. so after the code 12 and the pause, if it blinks 4 times - pause and then 2 times, this is a code 42 ( am using a code 42 just as an example). It will blink the code 42 (or whatever code) 3 times and then move on to the next code. There may only be one code but if there is more they will go in order. When it goes back to a code 12, the diagnostic is complete. Write down what codes you retrieved and these codes will lead you to the direction of the problem and there are testing procedures that go with each code. Until I get those codes, I am unable to help you any further. Once you get code(s) you can reply/comment here what they are or feel free to email me directly at [email protected] with your vehicle information (make, model, year and engine size) and I will be happy to try and help you diagnose what the problem is such as a sensor or whatever along with tesing procedures so you're not just replacing parts that are not needed. I know this was a long explanation but it's the only thing to be done at this point. Hope I was able to explain it to you so you understand and I was able to help.
