Vent selection will not change
sounds like you have a vacuum leak check at the dash on the heater controls to see it the vacuum lines have came unhooked or something simple like that if not check to see if they have vacuum with the engine running if no start tracing the lines till you find the source of the leak probably a dried up brittle line if all of these check out then you may have a blend door problem inside of your heater box itself
How can i tell if the heater core is out?
If you don't have heat ,but your fluid levels (antifreeze) are good , and your thermostat is operational( it opens to circulate water when hot)this could indicate a problem
Wipers stopped working wondering if it could be a fuse or something else?
more than likely an issue to do with a fuse, Have you checked all the fuses? Some are located up in the engine bay and control more than one item, other fuses can be located in the cabin of the vehicle usually under the dash panels located on the drivers side, or on the side of the dash when you open your door, you should see a little panel that is easily opened. Goodluck and refer to your owners manual to see which fuse does what. Another possibility is that the electric motor has burnt out, try turning the wipers on, if you hear a clinking sound or any sound at all as if the wipers are trying to activate, then you might be dealing with a burnt out motor.
Starting & Heating Problem
The starting issue is most likely caused by a defective fuel pressure check valve in the fuel pump in the fuel tank, it causes exactly the problem u describe. The 2nd issue is caused either by the thermostat in the engine being defective or the air temperature control door motor being defective, have the thermostat tested before u replace it, if u have a temp guage for the engine if it reaches anywhere close to the center of the sweep the T-stat is OK.
