I need to know how to over-ride the security system of a 1998 Olds Bravada. I have tried turning the key on for ten minutes and then off a total of three times to reset the security system but my car will still not start. Please help!
The security module may have failed - I'm afraid your only recourse will be to take it to a dealer.

security light flashing and car wont start
The security light is a visual indication that something in the car's antitheft system is failing. In most GM cars and trucks there is a hidden system that most people are unaware even exists. From the moment you put your key in the ignition, there begins a constant line of communication between your key's security chip or transponder, to the ignition's lock cylinder, and then to the car's TDM (Theft Deterrent Module). These 3 parts are in CONSTANT communication. If the key is in the ignition, then these parts are sending signals to each other. The security light illuminates when that signal gets broken, even just for a second. When the signal breaks, the car misinterperates this as an attempt at theft and goes into antitheft mode. The car thinks its being stolen or hotwired because it is not getting that signal from YOUR specific key. This is why the security light turns on and shuts down your vehicle. Remember too, the TDM controls the security light. Sometimes you can have ALL the symptoms and no lights.

how do i replace the fuel pump? I bought a pump assembly with the pump, sending unit and tank...
If
fuel and vapor hoses or pump/sending unit wiring can be accessed at
this time, they may be tagged and disconnected. If not, wait for the
retaining straps to be loosened and lower the tank slightly for access.

I have a 1998 bravada with the smart trak system. No fuses are blown and all wiring has been checked and no breaks were found. Ive been told that it can be the motor on the trandfer case or possibly a vaccuum actuator. The the front wheels dont work at all and there is no awd light on.
I have 2K bravada. Make sure you have serviced your transfer case with the "blue" GM Auto-trac II fluid. The "encoder" motor is a common failure item also. Unplugging it at the transfer case should cause the "service smart trac" light on dash to appear. This tells you that probably the encoder controller is good. Only buy the GM/Delphi/AC Delco motor, or you'll be changing it often. Try "thepartsladi" on eBay!

AWD service light io on all wheel drive not working in snow
Probably a bad transfer case encoder motor. Common problem on Bravadas. Also make sure your transfer case uses only "blue" GM Auto Trac II fluid. Flush once after driving a week with "blue" if you don't find "blue" fluid when origianlly checking. Just temporarily plugging a new encoder motor to harness should get the light to go out. Other less likely problem could be bad AWD control module or fuse.

ranger is overheating after head gaskets were changed. I have checked or replaced waterpump, belts, hoses, radiator, coolant, thermostat, ports in engine
If the cooling system has no bleeder valves to vent air, you may have to temporarily loosen a heater hose to get all the air out of the system...Also check to see if there is water in the oil...If there is water in the oil then it could have a head gasket problem....Excessive exhaust backpressure because of a clogged catalytic converter could also cause overheating..Also check belt tension and condition. A loose belt that slips may prevent the water pump from circulating coolant fast enough and/or the fan from turning fast for proper cooling...Another thing it could be is a faulty Water pump -- Any wobble in the pump shaft or seepage would call for replacement. In some instances, a pump can cause an engine to overheat if the impeller vanes are badly eroded due to corrosion or if the impeller has come loose from the shaft. The wrong pump may also cause an engine to overheat. Some engines with serpentine drive belts require a special water pump that turns in the opposite direction of those used on the same engine with ordinary V-belts... Also check the Fan -- With mechanical fans, most overheating problems are caused by a faulty fan clutch, though a missing fan shroud can reduce the fan's cooling effectiveness by as much as 50% (depending on the fan's distance from the radiator) which may be enough to cause the engine to overheat in hot weather or when working hard.
