1991 Chevrolet K1500 - Answered Questions & Fixed issues

I have a 91 Chevy 1500 350 shortbed l replaced spark plug and wires ,distributor cap and rotor button, ignition coil ,and modular under the distributor..and a new battery..the truck is just turning over and won't start..ls it possibly l might have crossed one of my plug wires, l got the print out at a O'Reilly where I brought the parts from..

Try timing and/or vacuum advance, assuming it is that old. Newer, cam shaft timing sensor as well.

How long since over-all tune-up? Use a gage and check proper fuel pressure, tbi fuel pressure 9--13 psi. 5 psi won't start and run a v8. In my opinion. I don't know liter size of engine? Can you check applicable trouble codes? Your obd1, you should be able to check some codes, if your check engine light works. You use a jumper wire between the A & B terminals at your datalink connector, then turn the key just till the dash lites come on, then the mil starts flashing, you count the flashes to get the codes. Your looking for two digit codes. If you think ignition and or valve timing is off, check it. My info for ignition timing, just says to check the decal under the hood for specs.

You can replace the catalytic converter itself, if you can find the spare part, however outside of a refurbishing plant special purposed for catalytic converter reconstruction/repair, you won't be able to "fix" the catalytic converter itself.

Disconnect battery, block rear wheels, jack up vehicle . there are only 2 bolts holding starter up, make sure truck is not hot..sorry should have said that first...any how I always cut a 4in x 4 in block of wood because I never seem to have truck high enough,,,,and how remove 2 bolts...DO NOT LET IT FALL....gently lower starter,,,there are 2 wires that come off..one goes to center bolt and second smaller wire goes onto small bolt....make sure you know which bolt to put smaller wire onto....once your done DOUBLE check and make sure the wires are not touching any thing else. ( can short out starter)....clean off bolts and put starter back in...and replace bolts....double check wires....I always do a start before lowering....once your sure you got it right lower truck and remove blocks....just a note I would NEVER buy one from junk yard or remaned.....better to have a brand new one with warranty...and allot of places like advance will give military discounts and a discount if ordered online and pick up same day at store.....GOOD LUCK

there should be a front diff lock actuator right in the side of the front differental that has an electrical connector that u have to unconnect and unscrew the actuator and replace. this part will run you about $100 and should take about 10 minutes to install. or another alternative is they have a manual kit out that replaces the actuator and it is a pull cable instead of an electrical job.

a matter of interest why do you want to know what size the orifice is as if you take the egr valve off some don,t have a gasket some do but they cannot be altered the are standard fittings if i know why i may be able to help you with what it is you are after yates210456

If you can use a jumper to run the fuel pump, does it get fuel past the fuel filter? If not I would replace the filter, If that doesn't work , then I would suggest the problem is in your wiring and most likely a loose ground wire or even a fuel tank ground strap. which could be one of it's mounting straps. If none of this helps then re-post with the original problem before you started changing parts... Good Luck

these are one unit. The starter and the alternator are one. System is stupid, i believe. But it is what it is. This is on the outside of the engine. You could replace it. $5700 seem really high to me, unless the part costs $5500. Look up the parts cost. Go to alldatadiy.com. Buy it for up to $30. alldata will tell you how to replace the part.

Had that problem on mine once it was a small relay about 1 inch sq. that had a red reset button on it, all I had to do was push the button. Now finding the relay was a problem. It was next to the battery switches, but no where near the batteries. Randy

look down the drivers side and the plugs are the same on the passenger side. Also one on each side front and back.

Not sure what test you want to do. If you want to check to see if it reading correct you can use a GPS and see if they both read the same.

It could be low on refrigerant but, there are other reasons for the compressor to cycle. If you could put a set of gauges on it there would not be a lot left to chance.
