2005 grand am no start no dash lights only power locks when turning key. New battery and ignition switch. What can it be?

No dash lights? no warning lights? Then ignition is not being turned to ON. Check all your fuses. Recheck your replacement work. Battery cables clean and tight? Headlights work? If lights are bright, battery is good and cables are good, so key to ON should light up warning lights on dash. If not something up still with your ignition switch.

I have a2005 pontiac grand am gt1 sc/t 3400 I got cheap found out that it was far and few from most grand am. I been having a issue of when I drive for the last month I had my aftermarket sound system up. I noticed my rpm gauge freeze, drop to 0 I thought maybe my bass was to much. I started to notice more and more frequently now it's with the other gauges on the cluster have been dropping to zero and my security red light jumps on then the gauges jump back up to were they should be perfectly normal. With or without the radio on the gauges drop to 0 the lights on car do not go on or off they remain light fine no matter wat. The car does not stall does not bog down. It drizes perfectly normal when the malfunction happens w the cluster. My head lights are fine. Hell the radio plays and doesn't miss a beat then the cluster drops. It's important to note the gauges on dash do not over jump or go all the way to the right. They only go to 0 to were they should be while driving and outta nowhere not all only one or two or all here or there very random wat gauges drop at random times. Does anyone have a idea wat would cause this. Could it be in my radio wire harness oem with the on star and anti theft sense it maybe a loose ground wire battery cluster default wat kind of issue would this faulty cluster cause on my engine or transmission? Plz help sorry for the rambling .

An intermittent problem like this is usually caused by a wiring/connector problem, probably at the back of or near the instrument cluster (IC). The IC performance should not cause engine problems - it is mainly a information readout device, but does have a datalink connection to the ECM and if there is a wiring problem with the datalink, you will get the intermittent. This may have started with the way your aftermarket sound system was wired in and the physical impact it may have on wiring nearby. You may have a damaged cluster, but the only thing I can suggest at this point is to carefully check your wiring in the dash, particularly how you have wired in the power feeds to the radio.

2005 Pontiac Grand Am 3.4litre V6 sometimes starts

Hello Michael, Typically PCM's are rather robust components that are not as prone to failure as sensors are. Some automotive electronic components can fail under heat stress and work fine after they have cooled down...like an ignition control module. As you are experiencing your problem while engaging the ignition switch (which you described as sometimes hanging up) I would start your trouble shooting with the ignition switch itself.
  • Ignition starter switch directs current from the fuse panel to other systems in the vehicle
  • When not replaced, vehicle may experience no-start, intermittent shut down and/or current will not flow to all systems.
Your vehicle also has steering column lock actuator you will have to deal with when removing the ignition switch for replacement which is rated as "easy" Search Results for 2005 Pontiac Gand Am ignition switch

Power to many of this vehicle's circuits are controlled by the module that is designated the Power Mode Master (PMM). This vehicle's PMM is the Body Control Module (BCM). The PMM controls which power mode (Run, Accessory, Crank, or Off) is active. Serial Data Power Mode On vehicles that have several control modules connected by serial data circuits, one module is the Power Mode Master (PMM). The BCM is the PMM on this vehicle. The PMM receives 3 discrete ignition switch signals to differentiate which power mode will be sent over the Class 2 Serial Data circuit. To determine the correct power mode the PMM uses the following circuits: • Ignition 0 • Ignition 1 • Ignition 3 Discrete Ignition Signals Those modules that have discrete ignition signal inputs also remain in the state dictated by the last valid PMM message received on the serial data circuits. They then check the state of their discrete ignition input to determine the current valid state. If the discrete ignition input is active, battery positive voltage, the modules will fail-safe to the RUN power mode. If the discrete ignition input is not active, open, or 0 volts, the modules will fail-safe to OFF-AWAKE. In this state the modules are constantly checking for a change status message on the serial data circuits and can respond to both local inputs and serial data inputs from other modules on the vehicle. Do you know what class 2 is ? Class 2 Serial Data Link The following modules use the class 2 serial data link to communicate with each other: • The body control module (BCM) • The digital radio receiver (DRR) • The electronic brake control module (EBCM) • The inflatable restraint sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) • The powertrain control module (PCM) • The radio • The vehicle theft deterrent (VTD) The class 2 serial data link also allows a scan tool to communicate with the above modules for diagnostic and testing purposes. The class 2 serial data link on this vehicle is configured in a star pattern. There is no redundant path for the serial data to flow through. If a class 2 serial data circuit develops an open condition, the module connected by that circuit will not be able to communicate. It is an electronic starter. ????? No it's not ! Excessive gas flowing out of throttle body

You may want to check the MAF "mass air flow" sensor, and clean the throttle body. If the computer thinks there is the wrong amount of air entering the system, it will compensate by adjusting the fuel.
