sounds like a security system problem with that year you probably nee to change key switch as the wires break after a while of turning on and off if you remove steering wheel and inspect the wires to the switch for a broken wire

I had the same problem with mine. After checking the obvious, plugs and wires, I found they were ok. My problem was the Ign. Coil pack was bad.. I learned that on the 98 camaro the no. 5 coil pack for some reason goes bad more often than the other two. Changed it out and started running top choice.
