1997 mercedes benz e320 ets light is on and car keep cutting off
ETS is your electronic traction control system... that would not make the car cut off. Check battery voltage, alternator output voltage (autozone can do this for you) and fuel pressure (cutting off may be a bad fuel pump / filter )

Automatic gearbox
Most transmission repair shops will have a exchange box that has been reconditioned and will take your transmission as part payment. If you buy a junk yard transmission you may have trouble in a few months time.

I have a 1997benzs gas pedal not working
open the hood, under the covers look for the cable to see if is disconnected from the throttle, repair, if broken replace, also check to see if that model has a T.P.S behind the left strut tower, may be the accelerator or the unit not connected correctly.

How do i put transmission fluid myself in a 1997 mercedes benz
Transmission fluid (ATF), like engine oil, should be checked regularly. The transmission box has a dipstick, like the engine. To check the ATF level, firstly locate the dipstick which is in the engine compartment. You will see the tube which carries the dipstick runs at an angle to the transmission box as opposed to the engine oil dipstick which runs almost directly down.
Checking the level involves starting the car and while the engine is running with the selector lever in P (Park) remove the dipstick, wipe it clean, then push it back and remove it again. Now you can check the level. Fluid is usually added into the dipstick tube.
If you are losing ATF, check for leaks because the A/T usually does not consume ATF.

1997 mercedes wont go in drive until i have driven in 3rd gear
BUMMER DEAL! It could have a sludge problem that needs that lower gear nudge to get it to shift. Just changing fluid is not enough. You need stronger medicine. Try this Mega Power product as it seems made to end that problem. Hope this helps.

How do you know when transmission fluid is low in mercedes
All the Mercedes I have serviced over the years require a "special tool" to check the fluid level. It is a dipstick, just like for engine oil and has markings on it for "full" at various fluid temperatures. I'm not sure where you could get one. I have been fortunate in being able to borrow one from a dealership where I know the service manager.
