I have a 2004 pontiac grand prix ...it was
Yes , having the vehicle checked for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble code's should always be the first step in diagnostic process when any warning lamps are lit on the instrument cluster . Would be best to have someone with a professional type scanner , that can view engine sensor data . The engine coolant temp. sensor is a input to the PCM - engine computer . Can see what the actual temp. of the engine is . GM had bad stepper motors inside the instrument cluster's 2003 to 2006 , these stepper motors control the gauge needles . Testing what the real temp is an not going by temp gauge . harbor freight tools sells a tool under $30 bucks that can check engine temp .
Infrared Laser Thermometer .. Point it at the thermostat housing . Can use it to tell what temp. the thermostat open .
But , testing is the key ! Not guessing .

My hud In My Grand Prix Doesnt Work
Which fuse ? Just to make sure you looked at the right one .
DISPLAYS fuse 10amp located in the I/P fuse block .
Do you know what DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes are ?
The HUD detects that the HUD change page switch signal circuit is low for greater than 15 seconds.
The HUD detects that the HUD dimming signal circuit is low for greater than 15 seconds
Diagnostic System Check - Head Up Display
Install a scan tool.
Does the scan tool power up?
Go to Step 2
Go to Scan Tool Does Not Power Up in Data Link Communications
Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
Attempt to establish communication with the following control modules:
• Head Up Display (HUD)
• Instrument panel cluster (IPC)
• Powertrain control module (PCM)
• Driver information center (DIC)
Does the scan tool communicate with the control modules listed above?
Your best bet , take it to a qualified GM service center .

I have a 2004 pontiac
You should bring the vehicle into a repair shop that does tranny FLUSHES not fluid drop only. A complete flush will change the fluid in the pan, lines and the torque converter. SOunds like you have water in the transmission and the longer you drive it that way the worse it will become.
