How do you check the speedometer on a 1990 trans sport
Believe it or not, your speedometer function is dependent on a proper voltage getting to it from the electrical system, If the voltage drops below normal the speedometer will indicate an ever higher speed right up until there is no power going to it. Check the back of the speedometer, to verify that the connector is connected, if it was then disconnect it and with the help of an assistant measure the voltage to it from the sensor while driving the car. If you are getting voltage then the speedometer is defective. If no voltage then verify the wiring. If the wiring is good then you likely have a bad speed sensor, if the wiring checks bad then repair the wiring.
Chrank but no spark
If the chain broke at highway speed then you have probably bent valves too. Does the motor spin fast? If it sounds different cranking then it may have bent valves. You can do a compression test to find out for sure. Good Luck
I have a Pontiac Trans
If the climate is differant there you may have to change the ECU / ECM so the emission system can work properly
How to replace the fuel pump on 1990 pontiac
This work is dangerous and needs to be done out of harms way. ( not in your house or near anything esle valuble that might burn up.) The fuel pump is inside the fuel tank and the tank has to be removed to get it away from the car to remove the pump from the tank. Raise the vehical on a lift and place a transmission jack under the tank. Remove any fuel with your draining equipment and sucure the fuel away from the car to be reinstalled later. Act like thiers fuel in the tank anyway ( thier is) and proceed with care. remmove the bolts theat hod the straps that hold the tank in lower the tank with the jack till you have enought room to get to the lines to disconnected them. You'll need fuel line sapartor tools as the lines snap together and use saparoater tools to disconnect them. unclamp and pull the fuel filler hoses from the tank and note if thier bad or not as they should be replaced if damaged, or rotted. lower the tank and remove from the car. Take the tank out side and away from your building or other cars, and remove the ciclular ring that retains the fuel pumps hanger and gauge assembly. With the ring removed the gauge and pump hanger can be lifter from th tank. It'll have fuel in it and you might set it in a bucket or something to keep fuel from getting all over. Depending on what they sell you at the store you'll either be changing the pump that's in this hanger or changing the whole hanger assembly. They cost more but they have new wires and the gas gauge too and as the pump fails it bruns these parts up too and it's better and safter to change the whole thing. Install the new unit as you removed the old one and you should clean the tank out good if you notice any sign that it's not clean. ( this is the reason for failure of the pump) Miles, or habitally running low on fuel will make the pump fail too.
I have 2 identical 1995
No, the water as it freezes expands, trapped in the engine block it just breaks the block and destroys the engine. The resulting cracks let the water that defrorsted as the engine heated gets into the oil and the bearings and it's not a good lubercate, and locks things up. the engine because the coolant is not cicrculating the engine overheats and melts down and ( blows up). You have blown engines in that they froze and busted. Their not repairable and the engine raditor and the heater core will allneed to be replaced. if the vehical is to run as a daily driver again. Water should never be used as a coolant as it doesn't lubercate the cooling system parts and protect them from rusting too. and of course as the water freezes it expands and breaks everything it's inside of.
Heater will not operate
Check your heater core, and the coolant lines going in and out of your firewall located on the passenger side somewhere neer the EGR canister. but you have a van, and thats a very cramped space. good luck
Car dies, but when I charge the battery the 1990
The interior light and ignition can not be related. Just coincidence.
The interior light has a 3 position switch, off, on with door switches, and on all the time. So either a door switch is shorted on, or the switch by the lamp is shorted to the always on position.
The ignition is weird but easily diagnosed. First check that the ignition switch itself turns on and off, by using a test light.
If that is normal, then take out the ignition control unit and have a place like Autozone test it. It has a relay the ignition switch is supposed to turn on and off, and it could stick on, even after switch is off.
1990 transport van starter removal
You get at the starter from underneath. It is always between the engine and transmission, pointing one way or the other. I believe it is on the front side of the engine. Remember to remove the battery cable first. You can check if the starter really is bad, (instead of the ignition switch or neutral safety switch), by jumping the solenoid at the starter. But be very careful that it is in neutral, parking brake on, and wheel chocked, because you will be underneath.
