1992 Pontiac Grand Am - Page 9 Questions & Answers
My 1992 Pontiac Grand Am is leaking power steering
It is most likely the pressure hose if the leak is below the pump. If you see the leak further back, it could be a hose or the rack and pinion assembly. A closer look should reveal the source. Wash it off and have someone assist you. The red fluid should show up better this way.
With ABS, my brakes STRONGLY pulsate at every
There are some sensors that monitor the wheel rotation for the ABS. If the sensor gets dirty, it can give the ABS a false signal. Your symptom is idicative of the dirty sensor problem. You should be able to find them on your car with out too much trouble. look for a small sensor monitoring the rotor for the brakes and wipe it clean, on all wheels. It starts then it stalls, sometimes it starts
It could be the Crankshaft Position Sensor - My 1993 Bonneville with a 3.8 had the same issue, I replaced that and it works great now.
It had codes:
17, and 18 I think, or maybe 19 stored. Which was Cam Position sensor, and Crank position sensor problem.
The crankshaft position sensor is easy to replace, if you have access to a pulley puller, some tools and a jack or lift. Some motors need a special tool for an adjustable thing, but most dont have that anymore as I think they recalled it and replaced it on all.
I think they run about 30-60 for a new one, and takes about an hour to replace.
If it is intermittent start problem that may be it. Mine would start fine for a while, then sometimes after Id turn it off, it would just crank and crank, It would start after waiting about 5-30 mintues, while trying to crank it every couple minutes. When driving down the road, it sometimes would stall when turning or stopping.

1992 pontiac grand am still dies, idles badly and backfires
They spark on a quad 4, 4 cylinder engine is distributed through a coil housing taht is mounted to the bottom side of your ylinder head cover. This housing has thin lead that run trough it to distribute the spark to the boots which fit down over the sparkplugs. Close examination of this coil housing will reveal tiny crack in the plastic along with carbon tracking, and these combined can cause misfire and/or no start condition. I do not recommend replacing the coil pack without replacing this coil housing. ( times out of 10 it is the fault of the coil housing anyway.

I have this weird issue with my 92 pontiac grand
You might have trouble on your fuel pump motor or on security system (passkey-II)
1.If the car wont start, kindly check the fuel pressure it should be 41-47 PSI
2. Also check the telltail messege of security system it should on for 3-5 seconds only after ignition on.
