1998 Pontiac Bonneville - Page 6 Questions & Answers
Coolant in air intake and oil deposits on spark plugs
Probably blew your intake manifold gasket that would cause the antifreeze to enter the intake also a blown head gasket would cause the same symptoms as to the module I'm not sure could be the computer or the abs pump
Badly leaking water
I am send you a picture of a plastic hose that is a very common problem with the GM 3.8 motors. I do a lot of head gasket. this hose is shaped as a L and if you stand at right front tire and look behind the coil pack and just above the water pump. this hoses crack
Car starts jerking
HelloThe engine
and automatic transmission in this vehicles drive train
are fully electronically controlled by a computer called the PCM
(Power Train Control Module). Whenever a problem like this occurs the
computer stores a record of the problem (there are of course some
exceptions to this, like the fuel pump, engine coolant temperature
sensor and MAF sensor for instance) in the form of a fault code in
its memory, to read these fault codes you must have the systems
memory scanned with a special tool. Once the fault code(s) are read
you then must perform the appropriate diagnostic testing to find and
resolve the problem(s) DO NOT REPLACE ANY PARTS UNTIL A
TRAINED TECHNICAIN HAS DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM TO AVOID SPENDING YOUR
HARD EARNED MONEY ON PARTS THAT MAY NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM
Bonneville engine diagram
My best solution would be to go to your local auto parts store and ask for a Haynes manual for your specific make and model. it will have all the info you need for your car!
1998 Pontiac Bonneville, Horn & Lights go off for no reason
leave the car unlocked to see if it does it. it sounds as if the bcm is defective or perhaps a door sensor. is the car kept in a garage? check to make sure you don't have animal prints on the car. sounds wierd, but an animal can shake the car just enough to trigger the alarm. then by the time you get to the car it is gone.
Pcm is not grounding injectors. need a pin diagram and ground location diagram
Ground points are in different locations throughout wiring harness. If you had any work done to engine it is very possible to have missed one of the grounding eyelets during the process of putting things together. Check along wiring harness in any area you can see or reach to try to locate any loose or disconnected ground looks.
It dies while im driving then starts back up
You can be looking at a failing fuel pump not able to give enough pressure. You have the early signs for it.A cam and crank signal going out or a ICM (ignition control module) doesnt give a immediate restart
Replace v-ribbed belt
Use a long wrench on the tensioner pully nut (located in the center of the pulley) Move the wrench to removed tension from the idler (this is spring loaded to maintain constant pressure on the belt) once that is done, the belt should be able to slid off the alternator pulley. With the belt removed from the pulleys, you will have to remove the engine mount bracket to be able to replace it. To do this first support the engine, then remove the bracket. You will then be able to remove the serpentine belt. Look under the hood for the belt routing diagram and re-install the belt, followed by the engine mount.
Parking brake warning
Two things that cause this to come on. Either the park brake is not in it's full retracted position or the brake fluid is low in the master cylinder reservoir.
