Headlights noisy

It sounds like you have a headlight motor gear problem. Most likely the nylon gear is stripped. Since only 1/2 of the gear is used it will slip over the worm gear until it catches the half that is not stripped. There is an article at http://www.bfranker.badz28.com/headlightfix/index.htm that addresses this with a free headlight fix article. I tried this but my gear was too far gone so I had to install a new one. If you have to go that route you will find that if you order one from your local Pontiac dealer it will run you around $300. I found a rebuilt motor at www.partsamerica.com for $93.49 and you can return the old core to your local Advance Auto Parts, Checker Auto Parts, Shuck's Auto Supply or Kragen Auto Parts and receive a $13.50 core refund.

I rewired the turn segnal

It sounds like the ignition switch,or maybe the neutral safety switch, try starting it in neutral, and move the shifter into park and hold it upward, see if it will start.Check for 12 volts at the s terminal on the starter as you try to start the engine, see if it is getting 12 volts. If it is not, look for neutral safety switch,or ignition switch to be the problem.

What is a lockout switch

I found out that it will disable the switch to open the trunk that is located inside the vehicle. To make the vehicle secure while you leave the ignition key with a parking attendant. etc.

In case you have something valueable you want to leave in car, you can lock the inside release and your keyless entry will not work just make sure you have a key to get in truck once you switch the switch in trunck to on.

Hope help with this.

Battery good but wont turn over

Your battery might make 12 volts...but it might not have the amps to turn the starter. You need a battery load tester to confirm that.

You should check your battery terminals as well as your battery cables for corrosion. Make sure the terminals are clean and tightly fitted to the battery. The cables can corrode and not allow enough amps to pass to the battery.

If the battery load checks ok and the connections are all ok. You should move to the starter. Get a mechanic to jump the starter directly and see if it turns over. If it starts from a direct jump the problem may be a lockout switch. If the starter wont turn from being jumped you probably need a new starter. Or at least the starter solenoid.

good luck and be careful!

2000 firebird brake lights do not work

Is this a 1998 or 2000?
1) Unplug the Brake Light Bulbs and with a Voltmeter, check for voltage on both sides.
2) If you have voltage: change the bulbs and recheck operation.
3) If you do NOT have voltage: go under the dash on the drivers' side. Look up onto the arm of the Brake Pedal. There should be a switch behind the arm, On the switch should be a plunger. With a partner at the rear of the vehicle: Depress the plunger in, and have your partner check for Brake Lights.
4) If you now have Brake Lights: the plunger and/or switch can be adjusted. The Brake Arm when depressed, pushes-in the plunger activating the Brake Lights. Some Plungers can be unscrewed (counterclockwise) to shorten the gap to the Brake Arm,
5) If you still have NO Brake Lights: Twist the Switch/Plunger 1/3 to 1/4 turn, removing it off the support bracket. Unplug this Switch and again check for voltage.
6) If you have voltage: the Switch is bad and needs to be replaced.
7) If you still have NO voltage: Check the fuses.

Fuel pump replacement

Yes, there is another way to replace the fuel pump of your firebird. Many other cars, like my 1993 mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4, had an access hatch built into the car that you can simply open above the gas tank and fual pump, remove and replace the fuel pump, and close the hatch. I have owned many 82-92 firebirds, and a 1987 GTA I bought, the previous owner had simply cut a hatch right above the location of the fuel pump in the gas tank, peeled the metal back, pulled out and replaced the fuel pump through the hole, and then pushed down the metal and sealed the edges closed. It wasn't real pretty, but it is underneath the back carpet and no one would ever see that repair. So yes, you can replace the fuel pump this way, and I believe you could actually place a hinge on the piece cut out and make a hatch there that looks OK, so you can do the repair again in the future if necessary.
It's a real shame GM did not do this simple thing, put a hinged door above the fuel pump, when they built the cars, like other cars do. If and when I have to replace a fuel pump, I am going to have a hatch put in my firebirds above the fuel pump when the repair is done.

Turn singles work in the back but not in the front

the haz switch may be at fault which is the only common link in the turn signals and hazard, but if the fogs dont work you may have a common earth lead running the front lights so trace that and clean, as fogs are not attached to the turn signals if the earth is not the fault trace fault on each as separate problem, fogs should be only working when your drinving lights are switched on
