No rear power in 98 chevy van
Hello. Chances are your ground wire is corroded at the spot where it is bolted to the frame. The only to check it is to get under there, trace the ground and clean it up. I prefer to unbolt it and scrub everything clean with emery cloth.
A. Power Issue: The battery does not hold a charge
a bad alternator can over charge as well as under charge - suggest getting a second opinion elsewhere - as far as alternator being "too big" - it will only give the battery what it needs when it is working properly regardless of size
Charging system
When the new alternator was installed did you perform a charging test to ensure it works properly. If it's not the alternator may overcharge the battery causing corrosion to the posts and possible cracking of the battery case. If you don't have the tester at home most auto parts stores can connect theirs and it usually is free.
Good luck to you
Chevy wiring
socket was made in mexico right? wiggle the blue wire that goes to the rear light. Now check the black wire and wiggle it as well. They are notorious for bad sockets. Help products offer replacements at your auto parts store.
P0102 Code on 98 Chevy 2500 van
Check to see if the pink wire on the mass air flow connector has voltage with key on.It come's from fuse #15 inthe under hood power box. Also called eng 1 fuse.If voltage is present try the old trick of using carb cleaner to see if you have a vacuum leak.that will also cause a high idle oon fuel injected veh.If you can't find anything ther your going to need to see your mechanic to trace the trouble tree down for that code. There is a long process for that code. Good luck.
Headlight won't come on
The headlights have 2 fuses. One is a main power feed under the hood in the distrabution box and the other is under the dashboard. Check the fuses and then check for power at the switch. If you have power at the switch then its not a fuse its the switch and the trailer you had connected most likely shorted and back fed into the parking and dash light circuit. Those circuits also run from the light switch.
Highbeam flashes by itself
This is not a solution, but a rather frustrating temporary remedy. I have found since I posted the problem on Dec. 2nd, that if I slap the dashboard, directly above the passenger cigarette lighter, on the dash board ridge, I can get then to turn off ...... at least for a few minutes. I hope I find the permanent solution before I destroy my dash with slapping :)
Replaced fuel pump yet van will not turn on
Check your battery cables and all fuses. Did you disconnect the battery when you performed the repairs? If everything checks out ok then disconnect the battery for 15 minutes and reconnect and try again. If nothing try jumpstarting the vehicle. Something might have killed the Bat.
