2000 Chevrolet S-10 - Page 9 Questions & Answers
I have a 2000 chevy s10 4.3l vortec, my fuel gauge
That's one of two things the fuel pump will work but the gauge that tells you what's in the take could be bad so replace the fuel pump to find out the other one is the cluster where the gauge is could be bad you will have to replace the whole cluster so I would start with a new pump
Engine trouble
Sounds pretty serious. If the truck is in decent condition you might want to check into a good used engine.
2000 Chevy S10 has spark but no fuel Pressure
Try 2 jumper wires. Since you found a broken ground wire, you should get under the truck and check them all. You can make them up and install them anywhere, but in this case, particularly to the fuel pump.. Remember, the more modern the car, the less steel there is, and the more important ground wires are. Then run another jumper wire from the positive (+) post on the battery to the fuel pump, and see if that works. Be blessed.
Ignition Key Will Not Turn
Lee, is it auto transmission? If so I have ran into this problem with many chevy trucks. One of two things, first check linkage to shifter, may either need adjustment or new bushings. Sometimes the gear selector doesn't engage/disengage fully and the key won't turn, or you won't be able to remove it from the switch. Next problem could be the ignition switch itself, it isn't impossible for tumblers within the switch to fall out of sequence, of get damaged from forcing positions with key not all the way inserted. This is a typical problem with us guys with strong hands, replace ignition switch, your problems will disappear. Meanwhile, be gentle inserting and turning that ignition key!!!! Especially on older vehicles.
Trans slipping
have the fault codes read. Check oil level in the transmission (hot --in d and on the mark) as extra oil causes frothing and low pressure. Have the band and clutch pack adjustment checked.
