1998 Pontiac Sunfire - Page 4 Questions & Answers
Security light stays on how do you get it to turn
put your key in ignition, turn to "run" position and leave it sit there for about ten minutes or so, then shut it off and try to start it. Should work ok then but it's going to do it again. That security system CAN be bypassed if you find the right technician.
What is the right tire air gauge of 1998 sunfire?
Tire pressure should be within 5 psi of the tires recommended max pressure but never higher. All tires have there max pressure stamped on the sidewall of the tire. Never go by the vehicles recommendation for tire pressure, always go by the tire. Some tires have different pressure recommendations than others. 35psi is most common- but some car tires rec. 44psi or more.
Driving car and then all of a sudden it kills. Now
I'd start simple Fuel Filter firstMight be worth looking in the owners manual to see if the car is equipped with a fuel safety shutoff switch. Some of the cars around that era had a switch that would automatically cut power to the fuel pump in the case of a accident. If those switch is engaged it will keep fuel from feeding. Usually its located in the trunk area or on the drivers side in the front under the dash area. I don't know for sure if that particular car has one.Another question does the car smell like it is getting flooded with gas when you try to start it?.......... I’m happy to assist further over the phone at

Smoke coming from the hood check engine light
Someone else's code may not help you as the light could come on for a number of reasons. Smoke under your hood could be due to a leak or leaks such as oil, coolant, power steering fluid and so on and as the engine gets hot the fluids will burn off on the hot engine or exhaust causing it to smoke. The smell when you turn the heat on could be because your heater core is leaking. This would be accompanied with low coolant levels, overheating and low heat especially at idle also the carpet may be wet. If your vehicle is equipped with a cabin air filter the smell could also come from there as leaves and other debris and sometimes even rodents can get in there. Also if you don't allow you evaporator to dry by shutting off the ac but letting the fan run for a couple of minutes the water on the evaporator can cause mold and mildew to grow giving you a funny smell as well. Hope this helps.
