Where is the diagnostic plug on a 94 Jimmy
LOOK UNDER STEERING COLUMN TO LEFT AT BOTTOM OF KNEE PIECE OF DASH SMALL BLACK RECTANGLE IF NOT THERE EITHER UNDER GLOVE BOX IN SAME MANNER OR IF YOUR RELAY BOX IS INSIDE GLOVE BOX THEN OPEN COMPARTMENT THROUGH YOUR GLOVE BOX AND LOOK THERE
Hard to start and the motor shakes when it starts
that would be a great place to start. Sounds like its tune up time. air filter, Cap, rotor, plugs and plug wires and a can of spray carb cleaner to clean the throttle valve , the idle air control valve and the PCV valve. Use the last of the can to check for vacuum leaks.
cold starts are hardest on the ignition system. Corrosion would cause a no spark condition to the cylinder affected, it would also cause a momentary loss of power while driving.
Make sure the new wires go on the correct post of the new cap. replace one wire at a time. Dont cheap out on parts as this tune up will last you 30,000 miles. Do a complete job

My 1995 jimmy start die over and over
Josh, same problem with my suburban, very frustrating. Two issues to check.Underneath your distributor cap and ECM module there is the pickup coil. The reluctor is most likely corroded really bad. It is about one hour work but you would be surprised how dirty and corroded that area gets. The reluctor is a fixed part of the distributor shaft and the little nubs break magnetic field which isprocessed by your onboard computer. If the pulses are not correct the computer is telling your TBI injectors to spray which will flood out your engine. Ten of fifteen minutes later, it will start up again and then die shortly after. Have a new pick up coil on hand too ($10.00) since your in there. My reluctor looked like it was in Vavy Jones locker it was so crusty. Second- the fuel relay. Nororious for developing little cracks on the mini circuit breaker which get wider as voltage and amps increase due to resistance (dirt,moisture). The relay will shut off the fuel pump if the oil pressure signal gets cut, and if your breaker/circuit board isbad the board heats up and trips off your fuel. When the board cools off in ten or fifteen minutes, starts up and then dies when engine gets warm/hot. It really had me stumped for quite some time. Hope ths cuts your wrench time down considerably.
How to remove the battery
I'm not aware of any unusual problems on a Jimmy - the battery should be held in with a rubber retainer and bolt near the bottom of the battery.

I recently had similar symptoms from my Kia Rio, hard to start, bad idle in gear, etc.
Ended up being the idle air control valve, you can try cleaning yours with carb cleaner and see if there's any difference.
A clogged fuel filter can produce the same symptoms too, that might be the easiest thing to start with, then it's just a process of elimination from there.
