My 04' over heating when idoling and ac is on
Fixed problem HERE........................
We changed thermostat, belts, water pump, hoses... you name it we changed it nothing worked. Just before we ordered a new radiator I took a few pics sent them to my dad and instantly he said to remove the bleeder bolt then fill radiator. That's it guys months of overheating a lot of money and hours of work when in the end it was so simple, cost nothing and took 2 mins.
Turns out most the Nissan motors have a type of bleeder bolt or something (not sure what its called exactly) on top of the motor and that should be removed while filling radiator. step 1 wait till engine is cooled down all the way. step 2 remove radiator cap. step 3 remove the bleeder bolt on top of motor (look around for it. Its just a little old bolt all alone) step 4 slowly fill radiator until coolant/water to come out of the bleeder hole. step 5 put bleeder bolt back in. step 6 put radiator cap back on. That's it. Good luck
if you do not do these steps air get caught in the system and when heated turns to steam. and your radiator cant circulate that steam because the hot air raises. The steam will just sit at the top of the motor and block the coolant/water from circulating through the radiator like it should. Without it passing through the radiator correctly it will not cool. Having a new radiator helps because when they installed it they probably filled it correctly (by removing that bleeder bolt). They knew they could have just filled the old one correctly but there isn't any $$$money$$$ in that for them.
My car keeps overheating..I changed the thermostat but...
Probly not. Unless the pump is run by it's own belt which broke. Usually , a pump is good till it starts leaking all over the place.
Please explain overheating problem more. Is it while you are driving , or when you are stoped in trafic. Does it heat up and overheat very quickly after you start the car. Is it really overheating , or is your guage just showing overheat.
Where do you add the
There is a port to add coolant under hood on driver's side nearest driver. Pipe with cap has "L" on it.
A rattling noise
I had rattling noises as well (over bumps and when I reved the engine) and it turned out to be the heat shields under the car. I took out 2 heat shields covering the two cats on both sides AND two rusted out dangling rings hanging from the exhaust coupler (have NO clue what they were for)..This has TOTALLY gotten rid of the rattling noise. Good luck!
My 04 XTerra's oil light
1st you need to do an oil pressure test. If it reads between 20psi-60psi, then it's Ok and you have a bad oil pressure switch. If it's below the above specs then you have an internal engine problem - IE: bad oil pump, bad bearing, etc...
My car acts like it
When was last tune up? A healthy one. Plugs, wires, all filters especially FUEL filter and a good fuel system cleaning. I'd start there to give you a good "ground zero" reliability point.
My radio,rear driving lights,dashboard,and tag
The fuse is located underneath the drivers side steering wheel. Turn the fuse box cover lid over and you will find a diagram. Replace the instrument cluster fuse and taillight/stoplamp fuse. Also make sure your dimmer switch is turned all the way to "high" Check each fuse with a multimeter and replace any burned out fuses with brand new ones.
2004 Xterra headlights won't work. I checked the
There are some other things you may have to check. These are the wiring of the headlamps which could be bad and the bulbs in the headlamps.
It is usually a case of wiring that causes this kind of problem. The wiring may have had some sort of error from a recent maintenance service or from anywhere and as a result it may have damaged the headlamps.
It may have gone as far as supplying too much power to the headlamps and made the bulb in the headlamp to get blown and it would not come on if that be the case.
On the other hand, the bulbs might be making an improper or a poor contact due to the use of your vehicles in gallops or bumps so this may lead to a case where the bulbs might now happen to be in a sort of loose fitting which obstructs the flow of current into the bulb from its socket.
You can also ensure that there are no such particles like dust or rust in the terminals of the sockets that comes in contact with the terminals of the bulb. If there are any of such particles, they could also obstruct the flow of the current and prevent the bulb from lighting up at all times.
If you do all of the checks above and still don't make it work, you have to see a mechanic who would review virtually everything about the lighting and make amendment if the need arises.
Hope this was helpful? Please comment for more information and thank you for using fixya.
What do you have to take off to replace the
I just did this. It isn't as easy as the headlight but can be done.
1. Go get the bulb. I think it's a 168 but check the owner's manual. At the back, the replacement bulb is listed. Ace sells them or Napa. You will have enough torn apart that you can't drive to get one after you start.
2. Remove the small portion of wheel well/ bumper in front of the front tire. I did the right side but I'm sure the driver side is the same. This piece is about one foot square. It has 3 phillips head screws and one 10mm bolt attached to a support rod. I would use some WD40 first on the bolt because I snapped mine as it was rusty.
3. With the hood up, remove both screws attaching the headlight shroud. One is on the top, ( easy) and the other is underneath. You will need a stubby phillips head to get it but you can now reach it will the wheel well portion gone. There is also a clip towards the radiator that has to be unhooked. I just pressed on it with a long screw driver and the shroud will then come off. You can then gently pull it out from under the head light by pressing down on the grill portion under the light and pulling outward.
4. Now remove the two 10 mm bolts holding the headlight assembly. One is toward the side of the car on top and the other is between the light and the radiator.
5. Now you have to remove some of the clips holding the grill. Not that fun. They turn with a flat head screw driver. I removed four across the top ( all the way to other end of the radiator). And the one underneath that is closest to the side of the car. They have square heads but when installed are 1/4 turned to lock them in place. Turn them until they are squared with the hole and the grill will loosen. Once the side you are working on is loosened, the headlight assembly will pivot down towards the ground and you can access the parking light socket.
6. Turn the socket to remove it and then pull the bulb straight out. It doesn't turn. It just comes straight out but kinda hard. I gripped mine with some duct tape.
7. Install new bulb. Don't touch it with your fingers. Use a paper towel or something. Put the socket back in and lock it by turning it. Turn on lights and make sure it works.
8. Now fold the headlight back up and loosely tighten the two 10 mm bolts.
9. Now to get the clips back in. Remove them from the slot in the frame they fit in and reload them from behind by pushing the square heads back through grill and turning until the square looks like a diamond. (This isn't easy. Especially the lower one where you are reaching under the bumper.) Some of them I put in place(square) and then pushed hard against the frame where the radiator attaches to get them to poke through and then turned them to lock them( now diamond looking). The ears may protrude over so squeeze them back down and they will snap into place. Now use your long flat head screw driver to push them all back through their receiver holes. They will snap into place. Tighten the headlight assembly bolts.
10. Replace headlight shroud. (It went in pretty easy) Re-attach the two screws.
11. Now replace the wheel well portion you removed and you're done.
Where is the 2004 xterra radio fuse
Hi,
There are two fuse panels. Check under the left driver's side under the dimmer switch, and the second box is under the hood next to the battery.
