How to change radiator drain plug
Simply loosen the old one in the radiator to let the coolant run out. After the radiator is empty, pull the old drain cock out of the radiator and install the new one. Tighten the new one up firmly and refill with coolant. Let the engine run to reach normal operating temperature and check for leaks.
Heater not working
Get a higher temperature thermostat. Fluid in the block warms up first and hotter then mixes with cold radiator fluid this lets it warm faster. Your current thermostat is opening too soon preventing it from warming the whole coolant system, also put a piece of cardboard across the grill to keep the radiator warmer.

sounds like there is a vacuum leak, a vacuum leak will cause your engine to run lean, that may cause your idle speed to increase, , check the vacuum line that goes from the rear of the engine to the power brake booster, it may be the brake booster as well, ether of these will cause hard braking, hope this helps.
