I have a 1989 suburban r2500 2wd 7.4 I recently
This may sound crazy, but take the battery bolts out of the cables and clean/replace them and make sure to clean where the bolt contacts the cable, I've seen plenty of GM vehicles with symptoms like yours and its where i always start, seeing as you probably disconnected the battery when you changed the alternator, or at least I presume you did , the cable may have corrosion behind the bolt. Just take the cables off the battery and push with your thumb or try turning them as you try pushing the out of the cables housing. Hope this helps, but sounds like a ground issue. Good luck.
Tail lights not working
ck fuse for rear taillights tis under the dash lower left of steering wheel. or if you still have the manual look in there under fuses.
also look for a bad ground but i doubt that.. if it's both rear out.
fast flashing well here's a chart with all sorts of info.
Problem What To Do
Turn signals light, but do not flash Replace the flasher
No turn signals light on either side Check the fuse. Replace if defective.
Check the flasher by substitution.
Check for open circuit, short circuit or poor ground.
Both turn signals on one side don't work Check for bad bulbs.

Turn signal flashes too fast or too slow Check any bulb on the side flashing too fast. A heavy-duty bulb is probably installed In place of a regular bulb
Check the bulb flashing too slow. A standard bulb was probably installed in place of a heavy-duty bulb
Check for loose connections or corrosion at the bulb socket
Indicator lights don't work in either direction Check If the turn signals are working
Check the dash indicator lights
Check the flasher by substitution
One Indicator light doesn't light On systems with 1 dash indicator:
- See if the lights work on the same side. Often the filaments have been reversed In systems combining stoplights with taillights and turn signals
- Check the flasher by substitution On systems with 2 Indicators:
- Check the bulbs on the same side
- Check the indicator light bulb
- Check the flasher by substitution
hope this helps. may want to print for future reference. :)

2001. Why is left front turn signal not working?
Verify that its the proper lamp #. I have seen lamps that look the same but are not. Also the socket might be dirty. remove the bulb and spritz some wd40 or other lube in the hole and try again.
What is the engine oil
4quarts if you replace just the oil, a little less than 5 quarts if you replace the oil and filter.
What causes a Chevy Suburban to develop a RPM pulsate at 2000 RPM in overdrive?
you might not have a problem . TCC solenoid.torque converter clutch.it is Inside the torque converter there is a clutch to stop the slip about 500rpm . you can check it by like 90kmh steady then with other foot just touch the brake pedal no braking just a little bit you will feel release and push again this is the tcc applied and it,s normal behavior
1990 suburban dies when warm
You obviously have to replace a worn out
& melted or broken cat, before you can diagnose
anything
If the cat is bad you got no fuel control,so the cat goes,
as well as the oxygen sensor
Odds are the timing chain gears are worn & it jumped time
You may have vacuum leaks
1990 doesn't have a carb it has a throttle body !
So you check test the tps sensor & it's adjustment,if any
You test the cts, ats,& map sensors
Air --In---Air--Out---not with a blocked cat,thus most
of your problem, maybe a clogged gas filter as well
