After becoming harder to start during the last 6-7 months my truck seemed to be running out of gas andthen would not start again.

Yes, I've heard of people taking the bed off to do it. If it's only those 8 bolts and slide the bed back, sounds like a good option. Quite a bit of work dropping the tank, plus there's not a lot of room getting the filler hose off, and your hand up there to disconnect the fuel lines and electrical connector, if they are on top of the tank. With the bed out of the way, all you have to do is access the pump through the top of the tank. Check it out and see which works best for you.

If it has a caby then check why the float is not controlling the needle and seat that controls the amount of fuel into the carby. Check the needle and seat for something like a hair or the rubber on the needle is cracked or the seat is loose in the carby body. Concentrate on the carby as the over fuelling problem is in that area. Check that the choke is not coming on

CTS "coolant temp sensor" control's the air fuel mixture and ignition advance depending on the engine temp, you have two of them, one goes to your gauge and the other to your ECM. I’m happy to assist further over the phone at https://www.6ya.com/expert/brock_d67526d2a834c47e

What is the timing setting for 2000 chevrolet pick

You cannot adjust ignition timing on the 5.7 liter V8 vortec engine. This system uses the distributor as a camshaft position sensor. You can loosen the distributor and rotate it, but it adjusts something called Camshaft Retard Offset. This can only be checked and adjusted using a scan tool that can read the cam retard offset parameter. Otherwise, you\'re flying blind. If you have a scan tool that can read it, the retard offset should be set to 0 degrees with the engine fully warmed up and running at 1000 rpm. If you cannot adjust it to 0 degrees, the distributor may be off a tooth or two, and will need to be correctly re-timed to the engine.
