I have a 2004 GMC

Verify all the battery cables are clean and tight, check for acid intrusion into the positive battery cable as well also check the battery cables at the starter and engine ground connections for being tight and having no corrosion.. Turn the nut and or bolts a 1/4 turn just to clean any possible corrosion under them.

Cruise control not working on vectra 2.0 diesel 2005 I have tried brake and clutch switches any fresh ideas

Though I'm not familiar with the Diesel, most vehicles have two throttle cables. One is for the cruise and it's common for the plastic part at the end (throttle body) to break. This is the easiest fix, and very commonly the problem. Good Luck

1996 Jimmy. White smoke coming from exhaust. Water

Either can cause the white smoke, but it's likely to be a head gasket. Of course, if you significantly overheated the engine, you also could have warped the head(s). Since the heads have to be pulled anyway, send them to a machine shop to be checked, trued-up and (possibly) shaved. Good luck.
