1997 GMC Sierra - Page 3 Questions & Answers
I have a 1997 gmc sierra 5.7 vortec, just changed plugs and wires, now it hiccups at idle, And excessive white smoke and gas smellout the exhaust any ideas?
If you have white smoke out the tail pipe you have a problem with antifreeze entering the fuel system and burning with the fuel .
You see the white smoke isn't smoke its steam from the water in the antifreeze .
Witch leaves with 1 of 2 problems head gasket or intake manifold gasket .
Being that its a chevy engine I would say its the intake manifold they have had a problem with this disgin for over 30 years not enough bolts to much glue .
Over heat this engine once the glue melts and it starts leaking because of the pressure .
The bigger problem you have is if you run this engine the antifreeze will get behind the pistion rings any wreck the engine in under a month.
So do something quickly if you want to save it
Good luck
What do i so when my power locks stop working and my outlit below the dash.
Check your fuses and you may have a fusible link that runs between your fuse box and switches if your fuses are fine then take one or both of your door panels off and check to see if they are getting power if so then it is the switch and I don't quite know what you mean by an oulet under your dash perhaps you might want to try and identify the part go to an auto parts dealer they will tell you what it is and you will need a tester for volts it doesn't have to be expensive to check if your wires are hot it will light a small light in the handle if not it may be something else . Get back to me with those answers and I will try and help you from there.
Removing rear axles
Be careful with this because if you accidentally spin the differential when the pin is out you'll have big problems and I bear no responsibility ! The guy in the video guy swears a lot, just so you know.

Brake lights won't come on
check for a bad brake light fuse! if not the fuse, the brake light switch operates brake lights and if bad you will not be able to shift it out of park, as well as the brake lights not coming on.! because you have to put foot on brake to do so. if bad switch, it wont let it out of park. it could be just out of adjustment also!! good-day !
Gmc 1997 how do you put the brake ligth switch on
The brake light switch is usually mounted on a bracket just above the pedal lever. You have to get down (and dirty) inside the vehicle under the dash panel to reach the switch. Remove the two wires, usually a plastic plug that you have to pull off the switch, then unscrew the switch from the bracket. When fitting the new switch, screw it hack onto the bracket, then adjust it in until the switch pushes in about halfway against the pedal lever. Check for proper function and adjust as necessary.
My truck doesn't start, I have pressure in the fuel lines and also spark
You may want to check the ignition module or the coil pack(s) for the spark issue. How are you checking for spark? The parts house has a very cheap tool to check for spark. It connects to the plug wire and the other end connects to the plug which does not have to be removed from the engine. Have someone turn the engine over and the clear window will register a light if you have spark. You may not have fuel pressure because you cannot start the truck. I am assuming with no spark you do not have a running engine, which may be causing a no fuel pressure issue. Do you have a mechanical fuel pump or an electric? Fuel pressure issue can be figured based on the last question I posed to you.Hopefully answering the questions I am asking and the directions towards spark issues will fix your problem.
