Starter wiring diagram
I think there is a YouTube video on replacing a GM starter. The wires with large eyelets go on the large center post, and the small wire goes on the post marked S.
Trying to hook up a tack and can't find the coil
The coil packs (there are 2) are on the back side of the engine, towards the fire wall. They are positioned about half way up the block, above the crank knock, and cam sensors, and are near the centerline of the vehicle, a bit to the passenger side. They are crowded, but accessible from underneath. Access from above involves removing lots intake and throttle equipment to reach them. Also, if your tach is designed to run on a single coil ignition, it probably won't work if connected to a coil pack. You would be better off taking signal from the ECM or maybe the crank sensor..
My cavalier starts up a little rough
Due to the age, I would say that you have lost fuel flow in the line and it is taking a while to get it back, when you turn the key on, listen for the fuel pump WITHOUT turning the key far enough to start the motor. Let it sit like that for 10 or 25 seconds to get fuel back in the lines, then turn it to start.
Chevy cavalier 2.4 rough idle in park/neutral car
bad motor mount..check main mount top passenger side..when in gear the motor side of the mount hits the frame side of the mount..just did mine after wondering why it ran like garbage at stop lights..
What is causing miss?
runs like it's missing
Have scanned for trouble codes, could be dirt in a fuel injector or a weak/bad coil.
No start no fuel or spark
What about your ignition module? I can't tell if you just replaced coils or ignition module included? Also, before buying anything, check voltage and ground for ignition module. Pink wire is voltage, black wire is ground.
The crank sensor sends ac signal to ignition module, the module converts signal to dc, something the computer can handle, then sends rpm signal to computer.
My keys were stolen and
go to your local gm dealer with your registration proving ownership they will cut a key or you can call a lock smith and the will open your car and cut a key for your ignition and door
Why won't it start?
Because something that should not have gotten wet, got wet. Let it dry out and see what happens.
Maybe when you hit the puddle a bump may have jostled some connection. Check for that also.
Change timing chain on a 1999 Chevy Cavalier thank the chain jump time how can I get it back on time
I am assuming that you have the 2.2L OHV engine (most do). If you have a timing chain problem, you may want to think about this....this engine is prone to timing chain tensioner breakage. This causes the timing chain to jump out of time. This will often cause the pistons to slam into the valves in the aluminum head, causing valve damage. If you decide to replace the timing set, insure that you get the chain, both gears, and a new tensioner. Install them and set the timing back to correct specs. THEN, perform a compression check of all cylinders BEFORE attempting to start the car. If there is uneven compression, you will need to pull the cylinder head and have it repaired or replaced before you can operate the vehicle. This is a tricky job. Aluminum heads are easy to warp and/or crack. You will need to replace all the cylinder head bolts when you replace the head as they are special bolts that are designed for one-time use as they have a stretch factor built into them. Remember to use thread sealant on those head bolts that extend into the water jacket or you will have coolant leakage. And most, important, USE A TORQUE WRENCH that is in good working order when tightening the head bolts. Be SURE to follow the correct pattern and torque settings or you will have problems.
