1988 Pontiac Bonneville Questions & Answers
My 88 bonneville keeps blowing the fuel pump fuse
It may not be a bad spot in the wire, it could be a bad pump thats tied up, or a bad relay, you need to run 12 volts directly to the pump to see if it runs, if it dosent than theres your problem, if it does than it could be the relay.
Where is the fuel pump relay located on a 1988
All relays are located at the center rear of the engine
compartment, below the left side under-hood fuse block (behind the maxi-fuse/relay center cover). There should be a diagram under the cover, that will direct you to the relay you seek.
Transmission fluid & radiator fluid
Your transmission fluid runs to your cooling system to cool the transmission oil. So, in answer to your question, one of the two transmission lines (one in, bottom and one out, top) could be leaking from the cooling system.
Bring your vehicle in for a cooling system pressure check. Another thing to keep in mind when inspecting leaks is that where you see the leak may not necessarily be where the leak is from. While the leak will drip down, the wind from when you're driving will splatter the leak all over the under-carriage of your vehicle making it look like leaks are happening where they in fact, are not.
Driving car and just died ignition module and coil
May be the timing chain. I had an 87 that did the same thing. See if it will start by squirting some starting fluid in the throttle body to make sure it's not a fuel issue.
You can check for spark by pulling a plug wire off, inserting any spark plug to the wire, and holding the base of the plug to a metal part of the engine. You should see the plug sparking when the engine is cranked.
An improper but effective way to check for compression is to disable the ignition to avoid backfire, removing the boot to the throttle body, and holding your hand over the opening of the throttle body. If the timing chain is good and you've got any compression, you will feel suction on your hand. If the chain or gears have failed you will feel suction followed by blowing out of the throttle body.
