1994 silverado 4L60E transmission not wanting to shift corrrect

when we bought this truck it shifted into 2nd gear at a high rpm and with a snap. now it doesn't want to shift into 2nd or 4th real good. my son said that if he let up on the gas it would shift. Also he is getting rotten gas mileage, it was at 10 mpg now it is at 6.5 mpg as the tranny gets worse.
A mechanic said he thought the solenoid was going bad. how do you change the solenoid and is it something easy to do. would this cause a loss of mpg also

If you have not worked on a 4L50E transmission before, leave it to someone who is familiar with the the 4L60E. The solenoid is in the valve body and i know some who have put things back together and needed to take it apart again over something simple as a servo pin in revers. Best thing to do is get the truck scanned at Auto Zone free of charge or at a transmission shop with a tech 2 scanner for DTC codes. If there is a bad throttle body sensor or it's misaligned, it would affect your transmission's performance. The throttle body sensor send's signals to the ECM which calculates the amount of transmission fluid pressure though out the shift points, if that signal is bad then your shift points and firmness will be affected. There is also a cheap and great performance upgrade for around $50.00. You have a Transmission shop swap out the servo's for a Corvette servo's, it can be done in 30 min with out taking the transmission down or removing the transmission oil pan off.
Recap, have the transmission fluid and oil changed and have the throttle body sensor tested. It should show a smooth gradual increase in resistance with out any fluctuation. You truck is 15 years old and it may have a dead spot on the sensor now and it may need to be replaced. Good luck and keep me posted, Be glad to help and you can also have the transmission shop do a transmission pressure line test.

Are you a member of AAA (American Automobile Association)? If you are, AAA will send someone to unlock it for free if you are a member. If you are not a member, but a friend or relative that IS a member is with you when you are locked out, they can call for help and get it unlocked for free. This just happened to me, they came in about 35 minutes and had my truck unlocked in about 1 minute. Good luck.

there's too much play in the steering wheel of my 94 chevy silverado. How do I fix it?

Answer

play in the steering wheel for that truck is more than likely caused by worn tie rod ends, and sometimes ball joints. The steering box is least likely to give you problems, unless it had bolts come loose. Check out the tie rod ends first; with the vehicle off, have someone else turn the steering wheel from left to right within that free zone, and look at the joints in the steering linkage. If you see one half of the joint moving more than the other half, you know it need replaced. If you have more questions, or if you need more help, feel free to post a comment, and I'll check up on it so you aren't left hanging.

Where is the transmission control module located?

Answer

The TCM is part of the ECM (electronic control module) and is not a separate module. The ECM is located behind and to the right of the glove box, you will need to remove the glove box liner to gain access to it. It has a large 60 wire connector going to it.

1994 Chevy C1500 truck. No rear brake lights

Had someone following me tell me I have no rear brake lights. Replaced both bulbs and checked the fuse (which look good). Still no brake lights. While checking things I found that the emergency flashers don't work. Also the right turn signal flashes too fast. Both the front and rear turn signal bulbs are blinking (albeit too fast). I've had the turn signal issue for about a year now. I guess it's possible the turn signal issue and no brake lights are related ? Yikes if I've had no brake lights for a year. Bad brake light switch ? and/or Bad flasher relay ? Not sure what to do first. Additional info: Headlights and backup lights seem to be working ok on the rear.

Most likely this is a brake light switch issue. Replace switch.

If your emergency flashers don't work, all flasher bulbs are fine, but flashing too fast, then check and replace Hazard light switch.
