I had a problem with fuel pressure due to a bad ground ******** the back of the engine block. This ground connects the battery to the frame through the engine block. The fuel pump is grounded to frame near the gas tank so it needs this ground strap. I live in NY where the salt corrodes the strap in about 10 years.

Spongy brakes 1996 Chevy C1500

Checked front pads (60% good), rear shoes (75% good), replaced master cylinder, new fluid, pressure bled system. All this and brakes are spongy. I have searched and not found the rear brake adjustment star screw...as I've always been used to. Does the 96 chevy have an adjustment screw for the rears?? Any other suggestions on getting the brake pedal more firm?

Thanks in advance,

DC

You can adjust the shoes outward on the rear by removing the wheels and drums, then above the axle but below the wheel cylinder you will see an arm that is horizontal, pushing both of the shoes outwards. There should be an adjustment nut that you can turn to extend the arm to push the shoes out.

Crackling noise from transfer case

My son just purchased a 1999 Chevy Tahoe Z71 that makes a crackling noise positively coming from the transfer case when in 2 Hi. It sounds like needle bearings crackling. All u-joints are good also, but was able to get the vehicle up and listen to it just by rotating the drive shaft. Fluid is proper also.

I have seen this problem on many gm trucks including my own 1999 chevy tahoe with the NP246 transfer case model the rear out put bearing has a plastic cage the falls apart and or the clip holding it in place shatters causing this noise you can inspect this by removing the rear drive shaft and with a flash light look into the transfer case tail shaft to see if every thing is intact. also this type of transfer Case is known for the drive chain to stretch and hit the inside of the case housing start by checking the bearing first.

I have the same problems but unlike the unleaded only guys I can switch to CNG also.
It happens when it shifts to overdrive, and then it goes to bucking and popping and you have to baby it or it will just pop real loud through the intake and just BOG DOWN.
Now I know I have a #7 injector clogged 100% or almost.
but you wouldnt think it would have to use that injector when i am running on the CNG. who knows.
My buddy told me that he had someone do something to a module of some sort that was hard wired into the tranny harness.
I will do more research on that and get back to you , simply because I am having the same problems now and I WANT THIS TO GO AWAY QUICKLY. I truly believe there is something to be said about going to the extreme pros on stuff like this (not dealerships most of the time, except for lexus) I mean the guys in the trenches, diagnostic nerds that pride themselves on solving puzzles, not the guys who are collecting a check.

I WILL FIGURE THIS ONE OUT.

location of map sensor on my 1996 chevy k1500

The M.A.P. sensor is located on the upper intake manifold plenum. It has a plug with 3 wires connected to it, and a vacuum hose connected to it. to chek the sensor you'll need a volt meter. you can insert the positive lead into the backside of the terminal of the light green wire (with the plug still plugged into the sensor). Put the negative lead from the volt meter and ground it to a solid chassis ground. Turn the key to the on position (DO NOT START THE ENGINE). Your voltage should read 4.0 to 5.0 volts. Now start the engine. at idle your voltage should read 0.5 to 2.0 volts. If your volts read in those ranges your map sensor is good.

For 1996 Chevrolet 1500, the fuse block door access is on the drivers side edge of the instrument panel. Pull off the cover to cover to access the fuse block. Check the position 13 (Power Amp, Cigarette Lighter, Door lock Relay, Power Lumbar Seat) and A position (Power Door lock, Six-way Power Seat, Keyless Entry Module).

Other details can find in the 1996 Chevrolet 1500 - Owners Manual

Hope this help (remember rated this help).

I have a 1996 chevy c1500 that is throwing a p0300

I have a 1996 chevy c1500 that is throwing a p0300 code indicating random multipul engine misfire. this is the only code it shows I am familuar with older non computer engines but cant determine the cause of the misfire on this one. Could this be a distributor cap or plug wires like on an older car. I dont find any carbon tracks or cracks in the cap or visable damage to the wires.

Look at the plugs, if they looked hot and cooked then the misfire is unlikely to be electrical. If they look OK check out the Cam sensor connections on the edge of the flywheel housing. If the plugs are cooked it could be a duff EGR valve or, because you have no code, a clogged exhaust feed pipe to it. The absence of the introduction of a measured amount of exhaust gas to the mix would give rise to systemic overheating of the ignition temperatures and this in turn can lead to multiple fire events

It is located under the hood on the drivers side right next to the fender. It's between the Fender and the Brake Control module. It's called the Vehicle Control Module (VCM) in this diagram.

In the first part of your post, are you saying, you have to jump starter relay in order to get it to start? I looked at info for 96 c1500, 5.0L engine. If I understand you correctly, check the control side of relay, left side in the diagram. It needs voltage and ground both. Ground is a chassis ground, voltage comes from crank position of ignition switch and is wired through the clutch or neutral switch, depending on the tranny.
