I believe the speedo runs off an electric speed sensor unit, which may have a rough spot on its rotating shaft. Remove it from the side of the tranny, and rotate it to see if you feel anything unusual. It could also have a bad electrical unit. If you have access to a similar vehicle, perhaps you could swap it to test.

The engine vacuum diagram should be on a sticker under the hood. If not, try truckforums.com, register for free and ask. Someone will probably shot you a diagram.

Bad actuator.

Check for stuck EGR, IAC, and that you have good blue spark.

Check ignition system first. Try running engine at night when dry and look for spark plug wires or coil arcing. If your lucky, just needs new plug wires.

Could be an ignition switch. Could be coils or ignition module. Have the codes read.

The most common issue is the encoder motor on the the transfer case.

These days you can find a video for everything on youtube . I will say you will have to have a shop/garage to do this in so you don't get any dust dirt inside your motor . Many people underestimate how the smallest amount of dirt can cause serious damage to the inside on a motor . Make sure and get correct torque settings and that you use a good torque wrench with smooth slow pulls to tighten correctly .

Back fires have to do with valves. They could be sticking,bent, or carboned up. To check and clean carbon. Get the engine up to normal temperature. Rev it up and pour water into the throttle body/carburetor. Water will clean all the carbon build up off the valves and the top of the pistons. If this doesn't fix your back fires, Then your looking at a headjob. If you have really high miles on the vehicle, I would be looking for another one. Head jobs and high miles don't work out to well...

You need special tools to disassemble and replace the switch. The best thing would be to find a qualified technician and have them replace the switch.

check fuel pressure and volume if its not right can cause this problem. what condition is the distributor cap, rotor, plugs and wires. something else that can cause this is if the injectors are dirty/plugged. if this is a Vortec engine they have problems with the spider injection system leaking inside the intake requiring replacement.

It is unlikely that you got a bad thermostat, but it is possible. Another possible cause is...head gasket, it could be leaking at the cylinder and into the cooling system or the head or block cracked. does it get worse the longer it runs?

The correct firing order is 18436572.

Bad battery, corroded cables. Battery should be 12 volts.Corrosion will look white to greenish color. and it will go down in the plastic part of the wire.

The starter bolts go directly into the engine block,. there is no starter mount to distort. They do sell shims, but this is just to space the bendix away from the flexplate if it is too tight. You might try new bolts, possibly have a bent one and most parts stores sell replacement starter bolts in the "Help" section.
