It is normal for the pump to run for two seconds when first switched on to pressurize the fuel system. It will turn on again when cranking and while running. I would still suspect the pump given your symptoms, however other problems could also give you the same symptoms. If it is the original pump from 2002, or more than about 7 or 8 years old, I would definitely replace it, and the fuel filter. Often the pump will go intermittent. I had one that I could restart and get down the road by hitting the bottom of the gas tank a few times!

misfires are often produced through faulty Fuel Injectors, I didn't see any mention of Fuel Injector Changes.

Get the engine control system scanned, that is the first step here.

If you are asking about the tin half round guard on the bottom of the flywheel or torque converter there should just be two sheet metal screws, one on each side and it will drop down.

Check the idle air control on the throttle body and the etc sw. by the thermostat outlet, it looks like a temp sw but sends a signal to the cpu on outside temp and how to mix fuel.

Did you put a dot of RTV on each side of the seal where the oil pan attaches if not you will need to do so. Just run a bead of rtv up the cap channel and out on the pan gasket surface then compress it with the oil pan when you torque it on. That is what the engine builder use when it is assembled in the plant. Most people do not know of this.

Test the tread depth, see how close it is on all 4, Toe-in setting is supposed to point the front tires toward each other very slightly. it depends on if you want to be able to fix the tire. the compound in fix-a-flat will keep the patch from sealing inside the tire. so instead of a $15 repair, it might be a $120 tire.

You could possibly have a blocked orifice tube or a low-pressure situation within the system. Sadly though, a high-pressure situation could cause the problems you're having as well. Over-charging a system with freon can make the sensors and compressor freak out, thus, causing blowing cold one minute, then giving up the ghost the next when the compressor tries to cycle again. Most systems these days sense the high pressure and shut the compressor down to keep it from over-powering itself, and the lines. Take it to a competent shop and have it tested or stop by a local parts store and purchase a pressure gauge for your A/C.
