Will not start, does not get fuel

I would check the fuel pump. When you turn the car on (not start) do you hear the pump? Have someone turn the key and listen at the rear of the car, if not...fuel pump may be bad.

Is there anyway to change a timing chain on a 1989 chevy celebrity without taking the engine out? my mechanic says there is a camgear that needs replacing, and it's pressed on, so you'd need

not really there is only a few inches space, and the pulley remove tool needs at min 6 inches. would think the only way you could remove it without removing engine is to drill hole in the side of the wheel cover side so its in line with the cam gear. but it would need a big hole. then weld a cover on afterwards.

Car will start and run, then when I shut it off it wont start back up after sitting for a half hr of so

Check the catalytic converter it is probably plugged and not allowing fuel into the cyl. due to putting back pressure on the engine. If possible pull the 02 sensor out of the exhaust ahead of the catalytic converter and if it is plugged you should have the car to run. It will run rough but if it starts it is the problem.

Howdoi remove the oil filter on a 1989 celebrity?

If I recall, that is a rather small filter. There would be a filter remover that fits over the end of the filter and is turned with a ratchet wrench. They are called oil filter cap wrench, at any parts store. There are about 3 different sizes of oil filters, so you need to find the proper fit for your filter. You put the cap over the end of the filter and use a 3/8 drive ratchet wrench to turn the filter counter clockwise to remove. Once off, wipe the filter surface clean with a rag. then put fresh oil on the new filter's rubber gasket and install only hand tight-as tight as you can get your hands to turn the filter. OR, you spin new filter on till the rubber gasket touches the base of the engine block. then turn filter 3/4 turn more.

Where is the replacement area

Search under the steering wheel area under the dash. Try to operate it and listen for a click. Replace the turn signal flasher if the clicking is too slow or too fast. It should click around once a second or so to be legal.

Most GM vehicles from the 1980s and 1990s had the flasher near or attached to the steering column area. This is the first place to look.

Good luck on this repair.
