1984 Chevrolet C1500 - Answered Questions & Fixed issues
High idle won't shut off, uses obscene amounts of gas...
If you have a carb, and nothing but a carb, you probably need to have your carb adjusted. If your carb has an automatic choke, it could be stuck. Check and make sure the choke's butterfly valve (the one in the top of the carb) is opening up once your engine has warmed up. If it doesn't, disconnect the valve from the auto choke and manually open it, that should change idle. Do not drive with the choke disconnected. Write me back if that doesnt solve the problem.
1984 Chevrolet Custom Deluxe rear hub service
If you can see inside the wheel bearings then they require lubrication from the differential. If they are sealed then no. You don't say if the rear axles are 1/2 ton or 3/4 ton. No brand of seal will seal better than any other. Spray engine degreaser in the rear end and flush out with water. You may need to do that more than once.
What does it mean when your bright lights stays on
It means you are trying to blind the on-coming drivers...dimmer switch doesn't work? In most cases , it is a malfunctioning dimmer switch. They don't go bad that often, so you could consider a used one from a wrecking or salvage yard.
Choke wiring diagram
The choke heater is that round thing on the side of the carb.. remove the wire.. Does the fuse still blow? if it does, the choke heater shorted .. if the fuse still blows with the wire dissconected the short is from the power source to the choke heater.. follow the wire find the short.
Speedometer reads too fast and jumps
I'm assuming you mean a 1984 C10.My first guess would be a problem in the speedo head. Not much of a chance that the gear in the transmission would be able to turn faster than normal.I would switch out the speedo with a used part to find out.
1984 gm truck horn fuses blowing, dead short, good relay
It looks like the only thing on the circuit are the horns. The orange wire goes from the fuse to the relay. Does the fuse blow if the relay is out of the plug ?Could be a short in the wiring in the steering column but that should make the horn blow all the time.
1984 Chevy 3/4 ton truck electrical shutdown on gear shift
I'd start looking for a loose or bad connection in the steering column. I doubt if it's a short or you'd be blowing fuses all over the place. Likely as you move the shift lever it is moving a wire that goes into or out from the ignition switch (on top of the column, under the dash)
I need a steering column

How do you replace the rear engine seal on a 84
You will have determine if its a 1piece seal or 2. If its a 1piece rear main you will have to remove transmisson to install. If its a 2piece you will have to remove the oil pan to replace.Hope this helps

Process for installing fuel filter
Hello Friend:
#1) Open Hood and Locate the Steel Fuel Line running to the carburetor.
#2) You'll need to use 2-Different Sized Wrenches to Break the Steel line with-Out twisting it.
#3) You'll see a Smaller Nut should be 1/2 -3/4 Inch.If you have recommend using a Flare wrench on that Nut.
#4) Then you'll need a Larger Wrench to Back up the Flare Wrench,Its a Brass Larger Nut Right on the Carb.Even a Cresent Wrench will work.On the big nut on Carb.
#5) Holding the Lager Wrench at the same position its in,don't let it Move, while Loosening the Nut on the Line.Remove the line away from the Larger Brass nut on Carb.
NOTE: Lossen your gas Cap to Relief any pressure in your Fuel Lines. Put some old Rags or something right under the Connection to catch the Fuel that will come out after the Line is broken
#6) now go ahead and Turning it counter clockwise take the Inlet Brass Nut on Off. After its Removed the Fuel Filter is inside a Cavity made just for the Fuel Filter.
#7) On the Brass Nut theres a Gasket besure not to loose or damage it you'll need it to seal the Fuel filter from any Leaks.
#8) Also the Fuel Filter is different on both ends.So watch carefuly how it comes out so you get it in the Direction of Fuel Flow the correct way.
#9) Sometimes People add a inline Filter as well some where in the Fuel line Coming out of the Carb. if there is I recommend you also change it.
To install your new Fuel Filter or Filters Simply Reverse the Procedure that you used to remove the Filter.
I hope this will help you Please let me Know by oting for the Quality of my solution. And a Testamony would be Appreciated.
