Hi Christuffer I have a 1986 Z24 hatch back. My Digital cluster went out twice. The first time I took it to the shop to be fixed. It was over $ 250.00. Then about a year later, it went out again. My tach was the only thing that would light up and be able to read. On real cold days, the cluster would come on untill my car warmed up. They would also flash on and off, when for some reason the cluster would come on and work for 2-15 mins. I got sick of guessing how much gas I had. So I decided to fix the cluster once more. This time I was unemployed, and had the time to fix it myself. Only cost me $125 with shipping. Its very easy to do yourself. Pretty much unscrewing 6 screws, then taking the cluster out. When you ship your cluster out. You dont want it banging around in the box, causing more damage to it. Or other boxes putting to much weight on it breaking it while in trans. So pack it right. I sent it out to Speedometer Repair Guy 123 W. Sarnia St. Winoa. MN 55987. 507-429-4489.
www.speedometerrepairguy.com. Took about eight days to get it back, shipping from Greenfield MA. You can also still drive your car while it's out. Make sure your gas tank is full before you take it out. Right now my cold start valve is not working, and leaking gas. Anyone know where I can get one, please let me know. Seems like this is a long gone part. That no one makes or sells anymore. Sorry if I offend you Chris. Anyone thinking about buying a cavalier. Don't. Worst nightmare I've ever owned. I've owned many older cars. All them put together, would not have the amount of problems I've had with this car. If I could sell this car for half the money I have put in it. It would have been gone. With this economy and being laid off twice. I got stuck with this piece of s###t and I have no other option except, keep on fixing it. I have about 13 grand saved for a 2011 mustang V6. When I have 15 grand. I'll go buy it, and keep the chitty for winter driving.
