Car shuts down while driving 1992 dodge caravan 3.3.l
HelloThe engine
and automatic transmission in this vehicles drive train
are fully electronically controlled by a computer called the PCM
(Power Train Control Module). Whenever a problem like this occurs the
computer stores a record of the problem (there are of course some
exceptions to this, like the fuel pump, engine coolant temperature
sensor and MAF sensor for instance) in the form of a fault code in
its memory, to read these fault codes you must have the systems
memory scanned with a special tool. Once the fault code(s) are read
you then must perform the appropriate diagnostic testing to find and
resolve the problem(s) DO NOT REPLACE ANY PARTS UNTIL A
TRAINED TECHNICAIN HAS DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM TO AVOID SPENDING YOUR
HARD EARNED MONEY ON PARTS THAT MAY NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM

Where is neutral switch on a 92 dodge caravan
Safety Switch
Most neutral safety switches are combinations of a neutral safety switch and a backup lamp switch. Others have separate units for these two distinct functions. When the reverse light switch is not part of the neutral safety switch, it seldom needs adjustment, as it is directly activated by the transmission or the gear selector linkage.
Typical location of a neutral safety switch on a transaxle. Reprinted with permission of Ford Motor Company.
A neutral safety switch allows current to pass from the starter switch to the starter when the lever is placed in the P or N position. Some neutral safety switches are nonadjustable. If these prevent starting in the P or N position and the gear selector linkage is correctly adjusted, they should be replaced.
To adjust a typical neutral safety switch:
- Place the shift lever in neutral.
- Loosen the attaching bolts for the switch.
- Using the angling pin, move the switch until the pin falls into the hole in its rotor.
- Tighten the attaching bolts.
- Recheck the switch for continuity. If no voltage is present, replace the switch.
- The switch sometimes controls the operation of the back-up lights also. With the engine off and the key on, put the selector in reverse position. Check the back-up lights to see that they are on. Then, check in the drive position to see that they are out.
Fuel pump fuse
It is not a fuse problem but the automatic shut down relay, it is called the ASD relay for short. If you look under the hood you can ID it from the picture below which shows the relay positions.
No heat I have changed thermostat, blow air thougt
I had this exact problem. Suspect a clogged heater core and you will probably have to replace it. Make sure you have the valve that opens the heater that works. You can remove it and see if it works. The valve is a vacuum valve that is connected within 10 inches of the 2 firewall heater hoses. If the valve opens and stay opens and passes water well then disconnect the output of the heater and verify the that water flows well and you may be ok with the heater core being ok. I know you do not like to hear but with all these tests, you should replace the heater core in the cab. It is a pain to remove but doable. e
Chek engine on
You can get the code yourself with this Van. Here's how get in the drivers seat, shut door, put key in ignition, Make sure every thing such as lights, radio, heaater, AC, etc is off. Then turn the key on but (Do not turn over motor) then back off. repeat on, off , then on STILL NO TURNOVER leave IT ON then check light in the dash will flash 1 flash break 2 flash 3 flashes total this means is has the code. And the following flashes are the problem code. So pay close attention after the initiual 3 count the following flashes there will be 1 set break 2nd set write both these numbers down. Say it flashes 4 times break then 8 then 48 is the problem sometimes there will be additional problems so watch for more codes and write them also, You can then look up the 2 number codes in a repair manual or check with a parts store etc. note: if you this you miss counted or are not sure you did this correct. You may repeat as many times as you need. turn on, turn off, on, off ,on leave count try to do it quick and smooth.
Heater dont work properly not much heat comes out
1st check the coolant level. If it's low, you won't get sufficient heat. 2nd, what does the engine temp gauge indicate? If it is only in the low side (cool, or cold), the thermostat is probably stuck open, and the car will not warm up properly, so not enough heat. Let me know if this helps or not, there are other causes of not enough heat, 1st check the above and post what you find.
