There are a couple of things that could cause this.

First, a worn belt can result n slippage and squealing when the compressor load is applied.

Second, a worn out compressor clutch can result in a metal-to-metal contact when the clutch engages. This will cause slipping and squealing.

Third, the compressor shaft could be locked up, so that when the clutch engages, the belt slips over the pulley and squeals.

These are four wire sensors two are for the sensor control and two are for the heater with a DVOM test the heater circuit for a open or shorted circuit. If test bad replace sensor if test good then follow the wiring to find if it is pinched or rubbed through and grounding out.

First off not sure of your engine size as you didn't mention it. In all intrepid's for that year no matter if you have a 2.7 or 3.2, they have a fuse link in the red (main) wire going from the battery to the alternator and the fuse link is closer to the alternator so I would follow the main FROM the alternator until it is located. Now in the heading of this question it says "power Distribution box". If you're not getting power the the orange wire with the dark green stripe from the fuse in the power distribution box, there are no fuse links in the wire but it does have a splice location so you will need to trace until you find the break or open wire. That's the best I can tell you until I have more information and if you do reply/comment on here your engine size I will need to know the 8th digit of your VIN if it's a 2.7 liter engine. I hope I was able to help a little at least...
