1992 Ford Ranger - Page 4 Questions & Answers
1992 ford ranger 2.3liter/code 224&334 what is the problem and what do I replace.
Duane,
224 is "Throttle position sensor/Pedal position sensor/Switch B circuit intermittent".
334 is "Knock Sensor 2 Circuit Intermittent [bank 2]".
If you don't notice any symptoms, I would clear the codes and see if they come back right away. If they do, you'll have to start checking it over for damaged sensors or wiring first before you buy anything. If the codes don't come back, forget about it for now.
These are generic codes so the description is giving you multiple choices. So be $$ cautious. You can see if a Ford dealer can scan it with a "Ford" scanner and get more detailed info for you. BUT, maybe not because a 1992 Ranger is Pre-OBD 2 so it's computer is pretty basic and not high tech anymore.

Does the 3.0l transmission fit on the 4.0l engine
Hiya,
There are 5 automatic transmissions used in the Ford Ranger, Explorer and Mountaineer. They may be identified by checking the transmission code on the Safety Standard Certification Label attached to the driver's side door post, in the space marked
Trans. The transmissions can also be identified by a tag attached to the lower left hand extension attaching bolt. The transmission codes are as follows:
- 1991–94 code T is for the A4LD transmission
- 1995–99 code T is for the 4R44E (2.3L, 2.5L & 3.0L) or 4R55E (4.0L) transmission
- 1996–99 code U is for the 4R70W (5.0L) transmission
- 1997–99 code D is for the 5R55E (5-speed automatic) transmission
So, what you need to do now is...establish from a FORD workshop, whether both the A4LD and 4R55E transmissions share the same components and mounting dimensions.
Cheers,
Scott
What type battery does CATX4 use?
If you go to a parts store, batteries plus or anyone that carries batteries they will either look it up for you or they will have a reference manual for you to look at. You can also call any parts store and they will tell you which one you need.
Why do I only have fourth gear 1992 ranger 4.0 v6 five speed?
If you are luckey it may just be a broken shifter or shift fork.. either requires removing the trans.. This is a T5 trans parts are available for it but sometimes its cheaper to find a used trans than buy the parts. First thing.. remove the shifter and see if you can see anything wrong. you failed to tell us how this happened ?
Hi; I have a 1992 Ford Ranger the temperature
Your Ranger is 19 years old. You need to perform a complete cooling system service. Drain the coolant and flush the system with a commercial flush as directed on the can. Make sure the heater is set to hot. Replace the thermostat. On your Ranger it is difficult to access as it is hidden down low on the engine where the upper radiator hose connects to the engine. Refill it with a 50/50 mix of antifreeze and distilled water. While performing this service inspect and replace any hoses that are suspect.
Gas guage problem
Most likely the sending unit is bad in the fuel tank. The easiest way to get to it is to remove the bed. Taking the tank off is quite a chore. You can unplug the tail light harness and the license plate lights& take the 6 bolts out of the bed and 2 good men can lift the bed off. The fuel tank will be in full view. Take the sending unit out of the tank by unhooking the fuel lines, wiring plug and turn the lock ring counter clockwise and lift the fuel pump and sending unit out of the tank and replace it. Reinstall it and check to see if it is working before you put the bed back on. I hope this is helpful.
