1996 dodge ram 5.2 auto 318 to shift to 4wd do u
Need to know what transfer case it has. Most t-cases have synchronized gearing...meaning shift on the fly. A quick test is drive at less than 5 mph, and shift, no gear clash means you have synchros. ****This is only from 2wd to 4 high. 4 low you MUST be stopped(doesn't matter what gear its in).****

Fix over heating
Have you run it with cap off and full to watch for flow when thermostat opens? WIth heater on as well, to bleed system properly. If your not seeing the flow at normal operating temperature when thermostat should be, or is opening, then you probably have a water pump problem.

1996 dodge ram. Vehicle runs hot. I have replaced
Hello there"
sounds like you have done a lot with this there is a few things that you can do to ensue every thing is running right.
first if you can get a handheld thermal gun and check the temperature at the temp sensor on the radiator or block then see what it reads compared to the guage to ensure the guage is correct.
next check the temperature at both the top and the bottom of the radiatoer if there is a big difference in temps the radiator is partially blocked a radiator will increase 30 to 100 degrees if the radiator is 20 percent blocked.. also check to ensure that the radiator hoses are not collapsing.
Now ensure that you are not gettin air in the system by way of the water pump gasket or by loose hoses ok?
and finaly check to ensure that the heater core is not leaking and drawing air into the system or is clogged this will make a vehical give the overheating symptom also ok?
Let me know how this is going
Best regards mikle

96 dodge ram 5 speed 318 5.2L that wont stay running
Yes you can run the engine without the sensor, maybe. When you disconnect the sensor the computer uses a signal or number preset in the computer memory. Sometimes the engine will run and sometimes not, but it won't do any damage either way.A mechanic would test the sensor by using a meter and a vac pump. The sensor measures engine vac.You could always try a used part.

How to replace air filter in 1996 dodge ram van
usually air filters are found in a big typically black plastic box before the throttle body/intake manifold. usually clips hold it together and are very easy to unhook, pull the old one out, insert the new one, clip it shut and thats it!
