Code p1870 1996 buick roadmaster
P1870= transmission component slipping..detected a slip there are a number of reasons this may occur..were there any other codes or just that one...If there were a bunch of other codes it may have fooled the computer into thinking there were components slipping ....I would clear the code and see if it reoccurs..While code is present you may find it shifts harder ..and possibly will not go into 4th gear or overdrive..good luck

The
Turn key to "ON" position (NOT START). Press gas pedal smoothly and all the way to the floor 5 times. You'll need to do this in about 5 seconds. Light should go out. You may have to do this a few times but that's how it's done...Start car to double check.

What order do plug wires go on distributor cap
Firing order is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2. Move #1 cylinder to where piston is up, and on the compression stroke (TDC). Easiest way to do this is with a compression tester on the #1 cylinder - rotor cap OFF. When you see the pressure build...you're on the compression stroke.
The rotor cap should be at the #1 cylinder firing position...simply re-install the rotor cap at this time - noting which button is #1.
Starting at #1 install the wire for the #1 cylinder onto the rotor cap...the next button (clockwise) on the cap should correlate to #8; the third button on the rotor cap is, cylinder #4..and so on.
work your way around the rotor cap until you have all 8 cylinder wires in place...ignition coil wire in the middle button.
Engine should start and run.
Hope this helps.
5.7L engine has fuel pick up issue running out of
Most likely it's not a pick up issue since the fuel sending unit is right to the bottom of the tank. It's going to be and electrical or the float in the sending unit is bent and is giving a fault's reading of 1/4 of tank when the tank is actually empty. It's common for the float to the sending unit to get knocked out of alignment if the unit is knocked around to much when installed in the gas tank and or wire harness has not been replace from the sending unit to the frame of the car which is only around $15.00. Fill the gas tank a few time to the top may realign the float and give you a more accurate reading. Good luck and hope this helps.
