Dodge 2000 Ram 1500 won't start

I drove it and then the next day it won't start. I had the starter tested and it is good. All the lights and sensors light up when the key is turned to start and the starter doesn't work. Could it be the neutral switch on the side of the transmission or could the ignition be bad? I can't afford to buy a book so any help would be greatly appreciated.

2000 dodge ram 1500 speed sensor location

I have a 2000 dodge ram 1500. I'm trying to replace the speed sensor but can't locate it. I was told its on the tranny but I looked everywhere. I found a sensor on the drivers side of the transmission but that one is for my reverse. Can someone please help me locatethe sensor? Thank you

The sensor you are looking for is located in the rear diff housing, its mounts on top of the housing it is also used for ABS if equipped.

That code is the EGR. I'd start by checking for a bad connection on the EGR plug-in. Pull the connector off and inspect each individual terminal inside the plug and the connector pins inside the EGR valve.
I found this solution at another forum on this issue. It worked on my 2001 Grand Am:

"Many GM built cars have a tendency to have the 'Check Engine Soon' light come on as a result of DTC code P1404. P1404 is described as EGR valve pintle stuck open, which in most cases is a false alarm. I had this happen with my '01 Grand Am. A little bit surfing on internet reveals that GM has a solution for the problem, a re-flash for the car's computer.

A software re-flash as a fix kind of indicates that the vehicles with this problem were built with it but I don't think GM will be re-flashing cars outside warranty for free. They will want their $100 for it.

Some hands on people I found had purchased a new EGR valve and changed it but the problem remained.

Possible reason (very likely) for the false P1404 code is that the plastic piston of the EGR valve position instrument (LVDT?) wears over time and starts reading a different position at valve closed than what it was when the EGR valve was first installed.

When the car was built and the computer circuits energized for the first time the computer learned the EGR valve closed position signal from the valve position instrument that is built on top of the valve itself. Over time, when the instrument wears, a slightly different signal is sent to the computer and when it differs enough from the 'Valve Closed Signal', that the computer had learned, the trouble code P1404 is set and the 'Service Engine Soon' light comes on.

Replacing the EGR valve with a new one does not necessarily fix this problem because the 'Valve Closed Signal' between valves is slightly different and it is just pure luck if your new valve would give a 'Valve Closed Signal' close enough to your original valve's signal not to set the trouble code. This is why the new EGR valve 'Valve Closed Signal' must be re-learned by the computer.

So, what this all means is that if the P1404 is a false code meaning that the valve pintle is not stuck open, then new 'Valve Closed Signal' can be re-learned by the computer using the old valve.

For fixing this problem the tool you need to have is a simple OBD II code scanner that can be used to erase trouble codes. There are many scanners of different price range on the market. I purchased one from AutoZone for about $90.

A code scanner is a very handy tool to have and I recommend everybody who is just slightly hands on type of a person to get one. It will end up saving a lot of money over time.

The fix goes like this:

1. Disconnect the wire harness from the EGR valve.

2. Turn key ON and erase the trouble code(s) from the car's computer AND TURN KEY OFF IMMEDIATELY WHEN THE SCANNER SAYS CODES HAVE BEEN ERASED. DO NOT TURN KEY ON BEFORE YOU RE-CONNECT EGR WIRE HARNESS.

3. Re-connect EGR wire harness and your problem should be fixed.

I learned this fix from OBDII.COM where carfixer and kozloski discussed it and I think kozloski was the one who provided the solution, so thanks to them.

There was also other people stating that this fix really works. Now I have joined this group of people as I got mine fixed using this trick also.

I believe erasing codes with wire harness disconnected and turning the key OFF right after P1404 code has been erased re-sets the 'Valve Close Position' reading in the computer and triggers computer to re-learn position next time the key is turned ON.

If you don't have an OBD II scanner and don't want to buy one some car part stores may erase the code for free, but if you have it done there you must tell them about turning the key OFF at the right moment. Other wise the re-learn process does not take place.

This is the OD Solenoid. There is a TSB out that covers the 2000-2001 Ram truck.

46RE Transmission MIL Due To DTC P1740 – TCC or OD Solenoid Performance
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves the replacement of the transmission pressure boost valve cover
plate.
MODELS:
2000 - 2001 (AB) Ram Van
2000 - 2001 (AN) Dakota
2000 - 2001 (BR/BE) Ram Truck
2000 - 2001 (DN) Durango
NOTE: THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH A 46RE
TRANSMISSION BUILT BEFORE AUGUST 01, 2000 (MDH 0801XX).
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
The customer may complain of a Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) illumination. Upon
further analysis, it is determined that the MIL is caused by Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC)
P1740 - Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) or Overdrive Solenoid Performance. Other than
the MIL, the customer may not notice any other condition with the transmission.
This condition may be caused by an intermittent and momentary TCC disengagement
condition. The transmission valve body pressure boost valve cover plate has been revised
with a larger size orifice hole to address this condition.
DIAGNOSIS:
1. Warm the transmission to normal operating temperatures.
2. Using the DRB IIIò, perform a torque converter clutch (TCC) stall test. The stall test
has been revised so that the TCC remains engaged for a period of four (4) seconds.
NOTE: THE DRB III MUST BE OPERATING AT RELEASE LEVEL 50.4 MDS2
SYSTEM CIS CD2067 OR HIGHER (AVAILABLE THE WEEK OF OCTOBER 2,
2000) IN ORDER TO PERFORM THE REVISED TORQUE CONVERTER
CLUTCH STALL TEST. DO NOT USE EARLIER VERSION STALL TEST TO
DETERMINE CONDITION OF THE TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH.
3. If the engine stalls as a result of the TCC stall test, then perform the Repair
Procedure.
4. If the engine does not stall, as a result of the TCC stall test, then further diagnosis is
required. The technician may want to consider the following components during
their additional diagnosis: a cut or worn input shaft seals, a missing pump lock-up
circuit check ball, or worn converter hub, input shaft, reaction shaft, and pump rotor.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:
1. Clean the pressure boost valve cover plate to remove any dirt or rust inhibitor prior to
installation. The revised cover plate will have a 1.75 mm (0.069 inch) orifice hole
versus a 1.22mm (0.048 inch) orifice hole in the original plate. Make sure it is clean.
2. Using the appropriate Service Manual, Group 21 – Transmissions and Transfer Case,
replace the transmission pressure boost valve cover plate p/n 04617012.
3. Verify fluid level after warming up the transmission and cycling the shift lever several
times.
4. Verify, and if required, adjust the transmission shift linkage and the transmission
throttle valve cable per the appropriate Service Manual procedures.

For 2000 Dodge Truck RAM 1500 1/2 ton 4WD 5.9L SFI 8cyl the Flasher is located: Seating area, driver side, at the left side ofinstrument panel on fuse block.

they are color coded . Black to Black . Gray to Gray. White to White. There may be more than one white wire you can mix them up and it will still work correctly

Engine stall when put into gear.

Engine will idle in park and neutral, but dies when put into gear. Was sputtering like it's not getting fuel when fuel level was low. Put fuel in it, ran better. Parked it, then a couple hours later tried to use it then it died when put into gear. It starts right back up, but dies again when put into gear.

There are a few possibility on this one. If you run it out of gas or really low on gas you could of sucked junk up from the bottom of the tank and you will need to replace your fuel filter. Another is that your fuel pump us going bad and you would need to check the pressure. Your throttle position sensor may have gone bad. Your idle control valve is another. Your map sensor or mas sensor could be bad
