First check the key itself...does it have a red tag anywhere on key body?if it doesn't do you have another key that does.it may be the immobiliser is preventing normal startup because the red tag key is the one you need to put into ignition, this then communicates with the sensor in the the dash which okays everything in the ecu to proceed with start.anti theft precautions courtesy of Ford.

My first guess, based upon your description of the noise, would be a starter that failed to disengage from the flywheel after starting.

Find the fuel injector, then trace the fuel rail backwards to the connector, might be a saftey clip on top of the chrome plated connector....it's round and needs a special tool to open the spring inside the connector. You should surf to try to find the wiring diagrams for this vehicle. So It looks like you have some kind of shortcircuit or driver damaged in closed state. Whitout diagrams is very difficult to find the fail origin except if you take your car to an automobile electrician specialist.

your best bet is to remove starter ,I included a photo of what your talking about starter being in the way.

Sounds like a bad pressure regulator. The regulator is suppose to adjust the pump speed to match demand. Some units work by counting the RPM with a crankshaft sensor. Check fuel pressure at test port. Sometimes the pressure needs to be adjusted when changing a pump.

The brake pedal must come when the engine stops ,like a hand brake,never struck that one before.

When was the car last serviced fully? Its 20 years old. The problem with the brakes is that the servo doesn't work unless the engine runs. I suspect the poor brake pedal, ie Rock hard, is because of this. Get the engine sorted out and it may fix the brakes?

Check fuel filter,s not blocked,check pump is pumping fuel , check ign module for spark at the plug lead.
