2002 Ford Escort Questions & Answers
My 2002 ford escort sedan is having a problem .. One day when i was driving it , it starting like loosing power slowely then it starting like put pttuing for a minute. Then it cut off.I tried to crink
Okay let's see first of all I'm not there and your description of the problem is not so good but here we go /// when it first happened was the battery and starter still powerful to crank the engine strongly or was it weak and barely turning? If the second part charge the battery and try also check all cables for corrosion and clean them next take the alternator out and have it checked also are you just getting a click when you turn the key more like a single clank noise from the engine if so check the nose of the starter for a braided cable it's either silver or copper if it's frayed and not connected that's a problem this is a ground strap and must be replaced for the starter to work if not let's move on with a fully charged battery and if the engine cranks like it usually did before this happened get someone to crank the engine and spray fuel injection cleaner or gas into the throttle body if the engine turns over for a few seconds that means your not getting fuel and either the gas filter is severely clogged or the fuel pump or full pump driver module has pasted it's life cycle and must be changed also try checking for spark from a plug wire wear rubber gloves and ground out the wire to the block if there's spark good if not change the ignition coil but first check that 12 volts is coming into the coil and check for resistance coming out a broken wire could be a problem here so check all and post back with progress and write down everything you've done and we will take it from there and be specific about what you did also make sure you have rubber gloves when grounding spark plug wires a 40,000 volt shot will definitely wake you up and beam me up Scotty as your head smashes off the hood so be careful and watch what your doing and pay close attention to what you're reading here this is not a joke you can really get hurt here from not following instructions heavy rubber gloves are needed good luck and post back
Diagram of location of the orifice tube on a 2002 ford escort
The tube is at the inlet to the evaporator core at the engine bulkhead. Disconnect the smaller of the 2 AC lines to locate it. In the picture below the line that you need to disconnect is the lower one in the picture of the AC compressor hose assembly.
2002 ford escort se 2.0L timing manual
Disconnect the Negative Battery Terminal to prevent it from turning on you. Hopefully this picture will clearily the rest. Loosen the tensioner. The arrows are pointing to where the alignment marks should be when you replace the belt. The Pointer marks on the gears should align with the dots as shown. If it's difficult to turn, remove the spark plugs to avoid the compression tightness.
Here's a Hint on how to prevent your engine from turning while your trying to loosen the crank bolt:
Use a tool called a "Locking Chain Clamp", it's about $10.00 at Harbor Freight.
No start
you check to see it is in correct timing? Spark? Fuel?
Car wont maintain an idle
engine lights mainly indicate a major problem that is detrimental to the engine or gear box and not light up on faults such as sensor or vacuum leaks
check for leaks in the vacuum system including the vent controls gear box actuator
have the fault codes read ad a good shop or spares shop first to save on chasing guesses
Handbrake warnjng light comes on when driving
The switch that detects when the handbrake is pulled is either loose and jiggling around or the handbrake cable is loose and allowing it to move enough to hit that switch. That's not safe, you need to have it looked at.
