Is a 94 ford 2.3L engine an interference engine. will valves hit piston if the timing belt breaks

Yes, if the engine is turning when the timing belt breaks, the valves will hit the piston. This is the definition of an interference engine: the valves, when fully open, extend into the cylinder area.

Why 94 ranger 4.0 rpms 2200 take breather off rev up 2 times drops to 1700 1800 at 55 60 for a while then goes back to 2200 no engine light ?

The idle air control motor may be defective/sticky. The computer gives it a command but doesn't realize the motor is not following the command and therefore no check engine light. You can remove the IAC and try to clean it with carb spray

I have an intermittent check engine light

Most likely an emission related issue. O2 sensor, egr or evap problem. You shouldn't experience any drivability issues as the code is a soft one and doesn't keep the light on. It wouldn't be a bad idea to have it checked regardless for piece of mind.

1994 ranger in 3rd and 5th gears, it has a loud whine to it.

Mine has a high pitched whistle at high rpms and I can't figure it out. But mines def not the tranny. I'm thinking it's a vacuum line somewhere. It's a 97 2.3l manual. The colder it is the louder...

How to adjust idle

Should idle between 550 or 650 RPMs. If it wont stay running under 1000 RPMs there is something wrong. Idling at or above 1000 RPMs it' going to be slamming into forward and reverse.

1994 ford ranger 2.3 runs fine wont stay idling

Try TPS. Throttle positioning Sensor. This sets base idle. (Unless this model is too old for that sensor)

The truck will not start. It seems that the battery has died, but it's a new battery, I have checked the connections and they look good. Does anyone know what it could be?

Check fuse able link a fat wire running from positive side of battery to fuse block in the engine compartment.

1994 Ford ranger why would head lights not work

Common problem. T/S lever is part of the "multifunction switch" that controls hi/lo lamps. It can be replaced by removing the lower shroud (3 or 4 screws from the bottom up). SW1093 @ Auto Zone about $66.

Alternator is not charging

Check all the connections to be sure the wires are in good condition. Check the battery terminals and make sure they are making good contact. Make sure none of the pins on the alternator are not bent and are lining up with the connectors. Be sure none of the wires are pulled out of the connectors. Use a Volt meter to check the voltage at the alternator and at the battery. It should be between 13.5 and 15 volts. Also check the grounds to the engine. I hope this help you locate the problem.

94 ford ranger

If you could post more Information about the vehicle it would help. Is it a 4 cylinder or V6, and have you change plug wires or done any other repairs. Unplug the mass air flow sensor at idle and if the engine quits then the problem is not with that sensor, it is else where. It could have a bad timing chain and jumped time or if the timing belt on a 4 cylinder is worn out it could also jump time and cause a lot of damage. I don't know what else to tell you. I hope this was helpful.

No power when climbing a hill

It seems I have more questions that need to be answered. Have you got any on board diagnostic codes. If not you need to hook up a code reader to see if it is storing any codes that will let you to the problem. Most generally the lose of power is related to the timing and is controlled by the O2 sensors. another this is the mass air flow sensor located on the air intake tube next to the air filter. I hope this has been of some help. Good Luck
