1997 Ford Aerostar Extended Questions & Answers
I replaced my cv half shaft axles in my 97 ford
I hope you made sure you had adequate fluid in the transaxle before trying to drive it! Did you SEAT the axles into the inner hubs (past a spring clip ring), or did you just slide them in until they stopped moving? Did you TORQUE the outer nuts to spec? There IS a possibility, that if you REMOVE the outer nuts and STRIKE the end of each shaft with a hammer, you MIGHT be able to seat the axles correctly ... assuming you did not do that before reassembling all the outer stuff.

Noise squeal
check for drive belt condition and tension. Check that all pulleys spin freely and are not making the belt slip.

How do I display error codes on 1996 ford aerostar
There is no way to display trouble codes without a scan tool of some kind. Being a 1996 it uses OBD II protocol which means you can find a generic scan tool that will retrieve codes at most parts stores. Generally they will scan the codes for you for free. Just be careful about taking the parts persons advice as far as what it will take to fix the problem. Many times a parts person will recommend replacing whatever part the code says but that is often not the correct fix. For instance a code P0171 indicates an oxygen sensor is reading lean so a lot of times people will replace an oxygen sensor for that but it's rarely caused by a bad sensor . Typically it's caused by a vacuum leak or a bad mass air flow sensor or sometimes a weak fuel pump. I guess what I'm getting at is make sure you fully diagnose the vehicle. Knowing the trouble code is just the beginning there can be several causes for any given code.
