1991 Ford Thunderbird - Answered Questions & Fixed issues
What is causing my front end of my car to squeak
any rubber bush on the suspension can cause this, it does not have to be worn, have a friend bounce the front of the car , and try and find the noisy one, apply brake fluid it may fix the fault, if not replace it.

1991 Ford Thunderbird V6 3.8 - Starting Issues
Maybe something wrong with inertia switch? Part of diagram so you can see inertia switch wire colors. How long since a tune-up? Any applicable trouble codes? Also, use a gage check proper fuel pressure, my info says 35--45 psi. I've seen fuel pumps that would run, but wouldn't make proper fuel pressure. I'm not saying the fuel pump has a problem, at the moment, I don't know?

Is there any possibility that anything done during alternator replacement that might cause the car to remain in 1st gear and only go 20-25 mph? Like maybe something was not reconnected or something?
anything is possible when dealing with electronics
many modern cars have the voltage regulator as part of the ECM so when replacing an alternator , any touching or arcing or disconnecting the battery could cause a problem in the ECM
what you describe is the system is in limp mode and that is generated by either engine or transmission problems that activate when either or both are in a position to cost money to repair and are preventable
So yes , incorrect towing procedure could activate the limp mode from the TCM in the transmission
What your friend should be doing is running the fault codes to determine the reason that the limp mode was activated
if there are no codes , reset the system and run the vehicle around the block and then read the codes again
fix what is found
if it is damage from the tow operation send them the account as they are directly responsible for the damage from incorrect tow operation
as an after though here , in my country, such tow operations no longer exist as modern vehicles can no longer be towed in this manner because of the safety collapsible panels in the front and rear , so all vehicle recovery is done by tilt tray trucks Where you are and it should happen again to you or friends , always insist on a tilt tray truck operator

3.8l engine. Why doesn't it start?
Black smoke usually indicates overchoking - too much fuel for the quantity of air getting into the engine.
However, overchoking is common at start up - that is how your engine manages to start on cold days.
As your vehicle won't start that may point to a problem with a sensor in the fuel/air supply. The non-starting could also be caused by a faulty crankshaft or camshaft sensor.
Unless you know what you are doing, don't go replacing different parts in the hope that it will cure the problem. This is an expensive way of going about things.
Your best option is to give a mobile mechanic a call and ask him to use his OBD - hand diagnostic tool - to identify any fault codes. That will tell you what the problem is (failed sensor or whatever..)

How do you change a starter on a 1991 thunder bird
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable
2. V-8 or V-6 are both located on the passenger side, remove two or three bolts holding the starter on the transmission
3. Drop the starter through the opening between the firewall and the exhaust
4. Unbolt the battery cable from the starter, and disconnect any other wires.
Install in reverse order

Door repairs
The doors have a pin and washers that help keep the door functioning right. There is a kit they sell at your local auto parts store for about 10. bucks with new washers and a pin. More than likely the washers are broken and need to be replaced. Its a fairly easy job. Just cut off the clamp at the bottom of the pin push it out and placethe old washers with new washers then place in the new pin with the c clamp at the end.

Wiring short
see if all wires are connected tightly...battery,starter alternator. also see if any wires look melted or burned. if all that is fine then maybe a voltage regulator (if it has one)

How to removee eec relay on 91 t-bird
The relay just unplugs but that is most likely not the problem because if the relay was bad the engine would not start. It is my experience that the ignition starter switch is defective, they were recalled for many models and i think T Bird was one of them, so call the dealer, if not replace it yourself it is about $12.00. It is operated by a long steel rod from the ignition lock cylinder and is located near the bottom of the steering column on top of the tube. Drop the column down to replace it
