Ignition switch test
if you remove the small wire on your starter relay, and add 12v to this connection, and it cranks, your switch is faulty.

Change starter in 1997 expidtion
This is a tight fit. Check Aboutautomobile.com for Service Bulletins called TSB's for your vehicle. I know the 1999 model had a connector issue at the starter, but do not know if the earlier units had same problem.
Some mechanics take off the passengers tire and work through the wheelwell. Having an extremely long socket extension allowing your rachet to be attached in front of the a/c compressor pulley will make removing the bolt nestled against the engine easier if you try leaving the tire on. Some use a combination of both methods.

Brake fluid leaking out of cylinder
mike the resevoir is plastic and over the years could have fractured giving a small leak. in this case you'll need to replace the resevoir. before you do this you really need to be sure its not coming from somewhere else in the line. i take it you have wiped down the lines thoroughly, filled the resevoir and pinpointed the leak area. most times its in the stainless steel lines themselves at a connection or even where a rusty mounting clip has coroded through the line.

Turn the key and nothing happens
check the neutral safty switch, if this is bad it will not start in park. put it ineutral and see if it starts. if so switch is bad. also the vehicles made lately have a switch in back of brake pedal witch means brake has to be pressed to start car. check safety switch first.

Freeze out plugs
The freeze plugs are a term used for the residual casting hole caps in a motor block. The original cap design is a pressed fit to an open hole. The cap can rust through and leak. Or the casting can have a less than perfect opening difficult to seal.Newer designs have expandable rubber plugs which can be easier to install and more successful. But this does not exclude using a standard replacement. There is an advantage in experience for installing these parts. But the process is using a hammer and socket to drive the part into the engine block.Access is the key for either replacement freeze-plug. Each plug is stand alone, with any being as likely to survive or fail as the other. Good quality anti-freeze has rust inhibiters to preserve these parts. In short, if it isn't broke, don't fix it. Fix the leaking part and leave the rest.
