DOT 4 has a higher boiling point than DOT 3 with all other properties being relatively the same. It shouldn't hurt anything, but as always I would recommend using exactly what the manufacturer calls for.

Im guessing you need to replace the gear on the camshaft position sensor! it also drives the oil pump. its a common failure its made of plastic or fiber. im sure you also have a camshaft position sensor code. replace that gear and hopefully your motor is ok! good luck!

nancycmixon, When you see this "check your charging system" you need to have the alternator checked. This is the main component for the charging system. A normal alternator will put out 13.6 to 14.6 volts. A few tenths of a volt either way won't mean too much but if they are extremely over or under these values means you have a bad alternator. I believe that your vehicle has a voltage meter in the dashboard and it will usually read in the thirteen to fourteen volts range. As far as your battery losing its charge overnight means that you have another problem and that is you have what is called a parasitic drain. There are a certain amount of parasitic drains already in the car with the radio memory and maybe a clock that constantly displays the time and the antitheft system in the car. These will not drain your battery overnight. You have something else draining your battery that is your problem. Have the alternator checked and mention the battery drain. There is test for this but it is too lengthy to post here. Sorry about that. Good luck with this.

Sorry this happened to you. Your best repair would be to find the parts in a Salvage yard. By doing this, all of the connections would be plug-in and in the proper sequence. You would have the expense of the repair wire sections anyway and if you piece-meal all the damaged wires together you could have constant connection problems. Plus if any of the wires are melted in unseen areas, there could be more problems.

There is a good Salvage yard site called Car-parts.com. It is Nationwide and gives you prices, photos, and all contact information for the parts. Some yards will offer warrantees. They ship to your house.

You may find places in driving distance from your home.

The Autozone website has Help sections at the bottom of the page. They need to be navigated between free and paid info. They have diagrams for the wiring. You will need to register on the site for free and you can look up 12 vehicles.

Also check your fuses as the wires may have crossed and broke a fuse.
