Why does it start, then shuts back off?
IF you have recently changed the gauge cluster then the 'security' or 'anti theft' needs to recognize the new cluster. The system will need to be reset.
It's been a few years but if I remember correctly you need to turn the key on, then off 3 times, then turn the key to the on position and leave it there for 10 minutes. Then turn the key off for a few seconds. After that, the vehicle SHOULD start and stay running.
If the gauge cluster hasn't been changed then I really don't have an answer.
Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
The ABS, trac on, and the service engine lights
Check your ABS sensors and wiring at each fron wheel. They could have dirt corrosion or pinching a wire. This could trigger all lights. You can have the codes checked at Advance or Autozone as their code reader should still pull any pending faults.
The battery is not charging and is bringing up codes P0621 and P0622 indicating a generator field circuit problem. Is this fixable? What do I do?
The alternator is fielded/grounded by the PCM. You need wiring schematics. Check continuity between the alternator and PCM for the field wire. If it is good, the PCM has lost the ground for the alternator(if not, fix or run a new wire). You can fix it two ways. First replace the PCM and have it programmed to the car. This cost money and it will turn the battery light off. Second, is to cut the field wire close( give yourself room to work) to the alternator, add wire to it and ground it to the engine(making sure the engine has a ground strap to the body). This may or may not turn the battery light off. But it will charge the battery.
How many quarts of oil and type does the alero take?
5 W 30 for the oil and the 2.2 Ecotec engine takes 5.8 qts and the V6 3400 takes 4.5 qts as far as the oil filter also depends on the engine. the 2.2 takes a paper element. look to the right of the engine and you'll see a black round canister with a hex looking nut attached to the top. I belive it's 32mm. use an extension but be careful putting it back on because the cap is just plastic Do not overtightnen! just snug it up firmly
My 2002Valero cranks but won't start
First off are there any lights lit on the instrument cluster , check engine , SECURITY ? If not, you will need to see if it has spark , fuel an compression ! You could take an spray some carburetor cleaner into the engine throttle plate to see if it starts , if it does you may have a fuel pump problem . And if it doesn't try to start you need to pull a plug wire an see if it has spark while someone else cranks over the engine . If there is no spark you could have a bad coil ,crankshaft position sensor , ignition module , ! But first you need to find out what is missing !
Forced the driver side window down when it was froze. can i put it back in
yes. as long as the window isn't shattered. you need to take your door panel off not always the easiest. when that's done you will have only a few holes to pick up the window and put it back into the track, if possible two people makes this easier. now the trick is to see if any damage was done to the track where the window sits. good luck
Lose valves
Probably not loose valves but not enough oil pressure. Make sure oil is at it's proper level and not over or under.
How do i change transmission lines on a 2002 olds alero
Getting to them is your hardest part. If you have the replacements you can see how they are routed. They are just screw type ends on either side of both the send and receive. Really getting them in and out of the angles it takes is the hardest part. Don't forget to drain the tranny fluid before you start and replaced it when done.
Where is starter relay
Should be in the fuse box......
this picture is from a 2003......hope this helps you :-)

Security light on car tumbles but wont start
You can spray contact cleaner into the lock cylinder to clean the contacts that touch the resistor in the key. Many GM cars have orange wire for the security lock coming out of the steering column. I used a ohm meter to measure the resistance of my Pontiac's key and it was 3000 ohms. Having had trouble with mine I plan to cut the orange wire (actually two inside the orange sheath) and rig up a make and female plug/socket and one extra plug that will have a 3000 ohm resistor on it. When mine refuses to see the key I can always reach under the dash and unplug the key switch plug and pop in the fixed 3000 ohm plug to bypass (or satisfy) the security system. This will make it think it sees the key resistor though it actually is reading a plain resistor of the right value.
