2002 Oldsmobile Alero - Page 5 Questions & Answers
How can you use wire going to the horn from the relay and put on a push button switch
Find the wire at the bottom of the steering column that comes down from the horn button, or locate the wire at the horn relay.. Cut this wire and splice it to a wire that goes to one side of a push button switch. Connect the other side of the switch to the metal chassis of the car, which is ground. A metal part of the dashboard frame will usually work. Then when you press the button, it will activate the relay and sound the horn.
What would be the cause of a horn not working on a 2002 oldsmobile alero?
loose connection, remove front of steering wheel and check underneath. theres a copper ring, that when you press the horn it should make contact with another copper bit . or you need a new horn (where the sound actually comes out), or the 2 wires that go into the actual horn have come loose. you can find the actual horn usually by looking under the front of the car.
Oldsmobile problems
Danger! Always connect the charge fitting to the low side of the system and use the proper refrigerant. All low side fittings have been the same since around 1993. It looks like you are trying to apply the charge to the high side of the system. THIS CAN CAUSE THE CAN TO EXPLODE. Find the low side charge fitting. The low side will have a wider hose or tubing. A 134A charge kit will have the proper fitting to fit your car. The fitting might be hidden but when you find it the charge connector will fit on it.I recommend you use a charge kit with a pressure gauge. On a hot day it should read about 30-40 psi
How to disable security system ?
Sir/Ma'am I don't mean to come off as an a'hole but you might seriously think about getting rid of that car for your own safety and that of anyone who rides in it with you if you can afford to. The most dangerous car GM EVER produced! There are so many defects with that vehicle that GM paid out BILLIONS that resulted from the lawsuits over that and other similar Oldsmobile products. I owned a 2002 and was nearly killed after hitting a "not so deep" pothole which ripped the steering rack right off the frame at the factory welds! I know it is an expensive venture to disable the security feature "which causes engines to just randomly shut off" WHILE DRIVING at highway speeds. Something else to consider if you have a family.
Whatever you do I wish you well.
Why will the car not start when I turn the key?
If you know that your battery, starter and ignition are working properly then continue on to possibly disabling the security system which is a known fault with Olds Alero from a failed passlock sessor.
